Review
"Readers longing for a return to Camp Half-Blood will get their wish.... ...the action scenes come frequently as the three heroic teens fight monstrous enemies in North American locales..... Flashes of humor lighten the mood at times, but a tone of urgency and imminent danger seems as integral to this series as the last. With appealing new characters within a familiar framework, this spin-off will satisfy the demand for more."―Booklist

About the author

Rick Riordan is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Kane Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus. He is also the author of the multi-award-winning Tres Navarre mystery series for adults.
For fifteen years, Rick taught English and history at public and private middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Texas. In 2002, Saint Mary's Hall honored him with the school's first Master Teacher Award.
While teaching full time, Riordan began writing mystery novels for grownups. His Tres Navarre series went on to win the top three national awards in the mystery genre - the Edgar, the Anthony and the Shamus. Riordan turned to children's fiction when he started The Lightning Thief as a bedtime story for his oldest son.
Today over 35 million copies of his Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, and Heroes of Olympus books are in print in the United States, and rights have been sold into more than 35 countries. Rick is also the author of The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones, another #1 New York Times bestseller.
Rick Riordan now writes full-time. He lives in Boston with his wife and two sons.

More specific to this book, I was really bummed that Percy's role was so small. I get that the point was to have him step back and highlight other characters, but it felt like he had a huge role and then basically disappeared this book. It would have been nice to have him slip to the background more gradually, or disappear in the middle of the series and then come back with some dramatic finish this book.
I don't know how I managed to never have rated this during my previous read...but apparently I did. 5 Riordan stars, since I started this author his own star chart on my last read of his work. I cannot lie..as I was going through all my highlights I found that 80% of them were "Leoisms," yep I made that word up, but for real though Leo is probably one of my all time favorite characters. The man is the all time class clown, underdog, and 5th wheel....I mean whats not to love.
Such a splendid wrap up to this series! I felt like the author really took alot of effort to make this series less of a one man show than the Percy series. The amount of work it must have taken to develop these characters so well is awe inspiring. I did finally notice a theme in this last book... basically their plan facing every enemy is to annoy them, cause mass chaos and destruction, and then run lol. I love it! I also "think" I saw the introduction to The Apollo Trials there toward the end... I haven't read them yet but their on my list. Mwahahahah.
The thing I love most about these books is the humor as you can probably tell by my favorite character lol. Intense scenes with lots of action and anxiety often times cause me to have extreme anxiety in real life... which can be painful at times, but when its broken up with humor it allows me to enjoy these scenes which just happen to be my favorite and not need intermittent breaks to calm my over anxious spaz nature lol. Love, love, love these books!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Now lets get on to the things that made one of my favorite authors get three stars for this book. I was so sad and disappointed that Percy or Annabeth didn't get their own POV. Percy was the one that basically started it all! In this book, he seemed to be put into the background along with Annabeth. I strongly believed that Percy should've had his own POV in probably the last long book he would ever appear in. In the book, we also heard a lot about Percy's big flaw, but we never ended up seeing it in action.
This is less important, but I still would've like to see more of Grover, Tyson, and of course how can you forget about Mrs. O'Leary. I would've even been happy with more Clarisse and Thalia.
Last of all, I was a bit disappointed in the ending. The ending was rushed which made it seem like all the buildup about Gaea and the giants rising was wasted. They do rise, but then they're defeated right away. In the beginning of the book, Rick Riordan warned me that there would be a cliffhanger, but I didn't think that it would be one I pondered for days after. I really wished he'd tied up all loose ends because all of Leo's friends basically think Leo is dead when he isn't. I can't help but wonder if they ever find out if Leo is still alive.
It was still a good book, and worth reading. Those were just my problems with it. I would for sure recommend it to others. I am super happy that Rick Riordan is writing another series, and can't wait until it comes out.

So let’s start with darling Nico. I just loved his storyline these last couple of books - accepting himself in more than one way and being badass along the way.
My girls! Annabeth, piper, hazel and Reyna. Even Thalia and Hylla. So awesome and badass and sometimes destructive. My favourite haha. Piper’s journey especially takes her so far, and I love her and annabeth’s friendship by the end.
Not enough Percy in this book, but I may actually be okay with that cause it still rocked. And Frank and Leo (💙💙💙) made up for it. I want a Leo in my life.
Just excellent.
War is coming. Octavian is leading both camps to their doom by declaring war on the Greeks. With no Reyna to stop him, he has given himself the title Pontifex Maximus ( High Priest ) and has also invited some nasty friends to join in the party killing Greeks...
Reyna, Nico and Coach Hedge must hurry with the Athena Parthenos to stop this massacre. But shadow-traveling across the world isn't easy and if Nico isn't careful he might become a shadow himself. Reyna has to confront her past and Nico his. Perhaps the answer to their troubles lie in each other.
Meanwhile the crew of the Argo 2 are battling halfway across the world to reach Athens and get back to Camp in time to defeat Gaia before the Feast of Spes. No pressure though...
This book has everything you would want from a great book: action, suspense, danger, mythology, believable characters that you genuinely cared about and of course a sprinkle of romance. I have absolutely LOVED this series and had high expectations with this book. I wasn't let down. I finished this book thinking WOW. What an awesome book! I was sad that it was the last book but looking forward to his new series.
The best thing was that everything was tied together at the end. Nico finally gets what he deserved all along, Reyna too performs impossible feats. You get to learn about Reyna's past and how she finally leaves it behind. I had to resist the urge to clap my hands at this duo's courage. They're some tough cookies! And of course my favourite character Percy too did some pretty amazing things. I do think that Rick Riordan could have had Percy and Annabeth more involved. Annabeth had her part in the cave with Piper but Percy? Other than wake up the Earth Mother, nothing much! Even though that bit was really funny!!! The ending was bittersweet. I felt sorry for Leo but was happy he got what he wanted most in the end. Phenomenal book!!!!!!
Both groups face danger, each event worse than the one before. We find more old friends and enemies appearing, together with new ones, before the seven of the prophecy are joined by the Gods to face Gaia. There is one final mystery as Leo disappears as the rest head back to stop the Greek/ Roman battle breaking out. With tricks and Octavian gets his just deserts, it was a book that I HAD to finish before .putting it down.
Truly an Epic set of stories from the First to the Last!!!
From Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson Books 1-5 plus two more extra books on the Greek Gods and Demigods) and continuing all the way through (Heroes of Olympus Books 1-5).
To end with The Blood of Olympus. An Epic story all the way through, a great coming of age story in beautiful and rich environments full of danger and mystery. A thoroughly cracking read. I loved it so much, I read it twice through. Wonderful.
