That's why I was drawn to this S'mores Cookbook. It promised recipes using things like marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers. This book acknowledges the fact that S'mores are popping up everywhere. I love what they say: "It is only in the last few years that we have taken the S'more indoors." That's exactly it!
The book starts out with a history of the S'more, varieties of chocolate and marshmallows, and I have to admit I skipped over that part. While I am sure that information is interesting to some, I really just wanted to get right into the recipes. The recipes started right after that, and oh my goodness, they just kept on coming! There were some "typical" S'mores with just extra ingredients added in, like peanut butter, or white chocolate, or caramel. There are some recipes that integrate fruit -- "Apple Pie S'mores" and "Chocolate-Covered Strawberry S'mores."
Most of the recipes are ways to incorporate marshmallow into regular desserts (for instance, a S'mores cake where marshmallow is used kind of as the frosting, or S'mores Cheesecake -- cheesecake with marshmallows and chocolate on top. But this book also goes beyond that, which is why I gave this book a full 5-stars. You can also incorporate S'mores into your meals, like S'mores Oatmeal or pancakes. There is a S'mores popover and waffles, Marshmallow Meringue, and even a marshmallow syrup (haven't tried that one yet, as I am afraid I might just drink it!!!).
If you like S'mores, you can't go wrong with this book. Even if you aren't much of a baker, this book gives basic ideas that are easy to incorporate, and if you DO like to bake, you can really get your hands dirty making some of these recipes in here. I got a lot of great ideas from it.
