Sometimes it takes the perspective of history to unmask the true genius of a person, a book or a point of view. Perhaps even more telling, the first attempt to deal with the subject of Jim Channon’s First Earth Battalion was through the vehicle of comedy.

The Men Who Stare at Goats, the movie starring George Clooney did not treat the ideas at the core of the First Earth Battalion with anywhere near the attention they deserve.     If you do any background research on Jim Cannon or the First Earth Battalion, you should know that the ideas presented are very "new age". It's still a very interesting read regarding the ideas of the "warrior monk".     I think that most people who are drawn to this book will find that much of what it contains has been said elsewhere, but that's good, because it means we're on the right track.

    The original book was probably in a different, larger format, so sometimes the text is very small, but all legible.

    Jim Channon....either he was completely nuts, or completely ahead of his time....I opt for the latter, the U.S. Army wasn't ready for what he had to offer, but maybe they gleaned something useful from it.

    The movie "The Men Who Stare at Goats" is a comical look at this part of the military's history, making light of it for sure, but at least offering a perspective that suggests admiration for at least trying things differently with the intention of creating something better than what we had at that time.
