About the Author

Susanna Harwood Rubin is a yoga teacher, writer and artist, whose work is rooted in South Indian Philosophy. She is a frequent contributor to numerous publications, including The Huffington Post, Mantra Yoga+Health, YOGANONYMOUS, and Elephant Journal. Susanna teaches weekly classes in New York City, and leads workshops and teacher training programs throughout the US and Western Europe. Susanna frequently speaks on yoga, meditation, and Hindu myth, appearing as a regular commentator on HuffPostLive. In 2011, Susanna created Writing Your Practice, a series of workshops and online courses that apply yoga philosophy, myth, and self-expression to the practice of writing. Hundreds of students from over 20 countries have participated. Previously Susanna worked at NYC's Museum of Modern Art where she lectured and wrote, including co-writing the book Looking at Matisse and Picasso (2003). This is a cute book with some decent nuggets of wisdom for contemplation. I am a yoga teacher, and I can sometimes use the wisdom of the day with class. If you are buying this book as a yoga teacher, hoping to gain inspiration to theme your classes around, you will find lots of good ideas here. However, sometimes I find myself flipping through the days to find something that works. Not everything does. I feel like about one out of every seven entries are really something useable, motivating, and resonating. From my perspective, there is more "off the mat" than "on the mat".... but it is still a nice book to own and I keep mine with me pretty much all the time in case I need a last-minute theme or quote for my class. It is thoughtfully worded, and could also make a lovely gift.

The minimalism of this book is lovely.
The daily suggestions for practice are approachable and allow you to delve as deep as you need at any particular time. Being able to start at any point is fantastic - so no catching up required if you miss a day or two - but simply experience guidance for the present moment. The combination of wisdom, poses, meditation, and mantras gives a variety that appeals to me on different days.
I purchased the kindle version as I travel extensively, so I miss the physical qualities of the book itself, so occasionally I am able to search for a particular word or practice which suits my day.
I highly recommend it to all - using it to create sacred ritual space, or just considering the wisdom for a few minutes instead of staring at your phone on the train - and in either case emerging with a smile.

This is not what I expected. most of this doesn’t relate to yoga. I don’t need to buy a book to tell me things like...”don’t be afraid to be yourself”. And...”daydream to tap into your creative life” or, “love yourself”. Each daily page is a very short read and nothing mind blowing.

I have been collecting yoga books (asana and philosophy) for more than 20 years. YOGA 365 is a true gem. It is beautifully written and researched. The daily wisdoms and stories are both profound and sweet...if I have no time for mediatiaton or yoga (and as the mother of a young child I am frequently rushed), just one daily reading from this book helps me feel centered and rejuvenated mentally and spiritually. I have already purchased additional copies to give as gifts to family and friends.
