This is a great book. I wanted to replace my old paperback versiojn which is falling apart, so ordered the kindle version. Unfortunately, this kindle order doesn't give you the book! It sends the book cover to your library, and then shows 3 pages of "White Glove Change" form, asking you to edit the book! The 3 page form appears to be something about Robson, the editor. No book at all.
I talked to Amazon, they had the same problem, and refunded my order, promising to track down the probl;em, but not knowing when it was going to be fixed.
So before you order, above the picture of the book is a link called "Look Inside". Click that link. you will see a pic of the book cover, and if the next page says anything about a "White Glove Change Request Form", donm't order the book, because you won't recieve what you ordered.

Book is great. Kindle version is blank.
This has been reported to Amazon by a bunch of purchasers, but they still have it out there to purchase and it's still blank.
You'd think after the first 30 or 40 people who purchased a blank book complained, that they might take it down.
I guess they figure some people won't waste the 30 minutes with support to get a refund, so they are winning!

It was approximately Christmas, 1985 -- although it's possible that it was the following year. I unwrap a gift from my favorite aunt, and it's a paperback copy of _Jinx on a Terran Inheritance_. Even as a 13-14 year old, it was clear as a bell to me that my favorite aunt had grabbed this book from a airport kiosk just before her flight back home from NYC. But, as it turned out, she made a fantastic choice. If memory serves, Santa didn't bring much reading material that year, so sometime in the late afternoon of Christmas Day or the day after, I peeled back the cover and started reading. Somehow, I missed the fact that this was the second book in a series -- and, in fact, continued to overlook that obvious fact for years afterwords. This book is, in my opinion, SciFi at its very best. I've probably read it a dozen times and purchased and read it from my Kindle although I still possess the same dog-eared-and-spine-cracked original copy that arrived on Christmas Day closing in on 30 years ago. Brian Daley was a fantastic writer who left too soon. Because of the magic of the internet and eBay, I discovered _Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds_ and _Fall of the White Ship Avatar_ around the turn of the century and now own a set of both paperbacks and Kindle editions. Every couple of years, I pull them off the shelf (usually metaphorically) and power through the whole series.

This is not the book, this is an errata sheet for the book. Very annoyed, I am repurchasing a book I paid $3.15 for originally, and they left out the text of the book.

This book, and series, brings me smiles. It is a great buddy road trip, but in space. The characters evolve and become very vibrant.
It is a go to book for me every few years. I have read it many times.

I read Brian’s trilogy a long time ago when they first came out. I am enjoying them all over again. Brian had a great voice and sense of humor. And plotting as well. He died too young.

Brian Daley was an excellent author who unfortunately died very young. He was perhaps best known for his work in tie-in novels -- three early Han Solo novels and, as one-half of "Jack McKinney", the Robotech novels in the 1980s -- but he was capable of excellent original work indeed.
The Hobart Floyt/Alacrity Fitzhugh novels -- Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds, Jinx on a Terran Inheritance, Fall of the White Ship Avatar -- are to my mind his best work. He creates both an extremely memorable world, the future world of the "Third Breath" of mankind (the third major expansion of humanity), and memorable and unique characters -- none more so than the main characters. Hobart Floyt, a lower-class "functionary" in the regimented, isolated bureaucracy of Earth, is suddenly forced from his comfortable life when the ruler of a small interstellar empire leaves Floyt an unknown bequest... that must be collected IN PERSON at the Willreading. Alacrity Fitzhugh, a "breakabout" (spaceman who travels from world to world, working his way around), is blackmailed -- and mentally conditioned -- to shepherd Floyt safely there... and safely back. But the Earth bureaucrats have no idea just what they've unleashed on the Galaxy.
_Jinx on a Terran Inheritance_ is the second in the trilogy, in which Floyt and Fitzhugh have survived assassination attempts and multiple plots of less-lethal types to discover that Floyt's "inheritance" is a starship -- on some OTHER distant world. With no ship of their own, they'll have to find their way through the galaxy to the world of Blackguard, collect their ship, and return to Earth... with multiple factions still out to kill them.
I LOVE these books. I've read them many times over the years. If you want more in-depth description of their virtues, I've written a fairly extensive review/discussion on my site here:
