I like that it is a visual guide, but the art styles seem a little all over the place which is off putting sometimes. Some of the art is just game screenshots too, which can really stand out. I understand this is because the book is unofficial and they pull the art from whatever sources they can, but it was slightly a let down when I first thumbed through.
The information it provides is also very minimal and mostly things you would already know if you have played the game very much. I'm not very good with keeping up with the story within the game (even though I have played since release) but even I know most of the information in this book. Just don't expect this to go into much detail or back story, it's just a quick recap of the main people, places, and things in the game.
I don't think this guide is bad, but you should know who this is for.
It's not for those that want a show piece with beautiful artwork and some light back story, I would not use this as a coffee table piece or anything.
and it's not for those looking to really dig deeper into the story outside of what the game easily offers, I'd recommend the new
World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1
for that.
But I do recommend this for someone new to the game that wants to catch up on the story and have a better understanding of what is going on. It will take you through the story line up until the end of the Warlords expansion. Making it perfect for someone just starting out in Legion.

"There's tons of lore for the story enthusiasts, including — wait for it — an official timeline of events, something many of us have been clamoring for, for quite a while now. If you're a big WoW geek (like most of the staff here at WoW Insider)it wouldn't be surprising for this book to earn a place of pride on your bookshelves." – Joystiq.com

I pre-ordered this not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of great artwork, and very well written text. I sat down to glance through it, and ended up reading the entire thing in one sitting in about 2.5 hours. Even though I knew a lot of the lore, there was a lot I didn't know, and this filled the gaps. Great "coffee table book" too.
The only criticism I have is that it advertised a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff which only consists of a few pages near the back of the book that doesn't provide any insight at all, it's just like "photos from BlizzCon," etc. I didn't order it for that, so wasn't put off by it, but some might be.

Personally, I liked this book and enjoyed almost every bit. But the main problem with a book about a constantly changing game is that it gets out of date fast. This book was published in 2016, right before Legion. This means that it contains practically no information on the events of Legion whatsoever. For some strange reason, the events of the Burning Crusade are also mostly omitted. The book is nice to look at, but some parts of it can seem a little low quality (the images of characters that are just screenshots look terrible compared to the artwork some characters have). Also, some pictures in the book are out of date with the rest of the book itself, most notably Page 14-15, with the Horde and Alliance Leaders pictured. Since this was probably drawn before Cataclysm, the worgen and goblin leaders are not shown (nor are the pandaren representatives for the factions, but they don't matter as much). Get this book if you like the feeling of paper in your hand and want to look and some great artwork; if you want a consistently up to date source of info, then stick to Wowpedia.

As most of the reviews here have stated, this is a great resource for all levels of WoW-lore-ites. For those new to the game, this guide does an *excellent* job of filling in the details you may have missed while grinding to 90. For vets, most of the material will be familiar, though some of the more esoteric parts of WoW lore are filled in nicely. The art in the book is gorgeous and can stand on its own. The book is a bit on the large side, which I find to bit cumbersome at times, but it's definitely something fun to have in my library.
If you're new to WoW, I would strongly suggest buying this so you can get up-to-speed on what has become an extremely robust lore library over 8+ years. If you're a vet, you'll enjoy this as a sort of stroll down memory lane, and might find it even motivates you to go solo some of those old raids just for the memories.

Let's get this straight: This is a hardcover, beautifully done art book with large pages filled with artwork covering (to some degree) just about every major aspect of World of Warcraft. As an added bonus, all the artwork comes with blurbs or stories about the characters, objects, places, and events depicted. The artwork is fantastic; staying true to the World of Warcraft spirit with vibrant, colorful scenes that leap out at you. The oversized pages really help the art sink into your brain and it will not take long until you want to dive right back into that world. At the current price (~$20), this is a fantastic deal and I cannot believe the amount of content that you get. This book goes great on the coffee table of any fan of WoW.

As I stated above if you love the game WoW, just started out, coming back etc this is a must have book. The graphics are stunning and the visual aids are super nice. Whomever helped with this at Blizzard deserves a bonus. My girlfriend keeps stealing book as she just started playing in Mists so she is loving the fact she can learn all the old lore without having to ask me 20 questions. I like it as I have been playing since Crusades and there is much I didn't know about some of the old lore that I missed. It is really a must have for any WoW enthusiast.

A great book

Arrived earlier than expected, and as described. Great art work - mixes in-game, design and other art work to tell describe the locatiins and explain the major players in the Wow universe. Lots of lore is included with plenty of maps to show where everything is. A great companion to the game, covers everything up to the latest expansion, with lots of stuff very relevant to Legion.

If you're like me and you started wow - and literally hear a million different versions of exactly what the lore was while you're trying to grind your way through 12 years of content: this is for you.
I read it every day after I was done to keep myself at a reasonable level of understanding as I played and it went a long way to telling people in discord they know less than Jon Snow.
As a bonus - it's prettier to look at than Tyrande.
My girlfriend will never get me to take this off the coffee table.

I love this book. I've played WoW for nine years, and read most of the novels, but I get my history mixed up and forget which war was which and what orc did what. I am thoroughly enjoying reading about the characters met or mentioned in quests.
On a more sombre note, when WoW is no more it will be a reminder to me of events I played through. I'll sit in my dotage unable to recall who I sat next to at primary school, but I'll remember the fall of Zalazane, and that time Aggra asked us to rescue Thrall from a gang of elementals.

Really insightful

I bought this book to get more detail on the Lich King era and it really put it all into perspective. Although some of the double page spreads are a bit sparse, the book doesn't lack for detail and has some great timelines which really give a good start on the lore and cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Overall, if you like WoW then you should get this book.

My grandparents treated me to some WoW goodies and this was one of them.
Ive played WoW since the beta all those years and ago and its nice to read more about the characters that inhabit the world of Azeroth.
Some stuff I didn't know and was interesting to learn more.
Worth the price!
