From the beginning there was something about Falyn that just rubbed me the wrong way. I mean I wanted to like her. She was a good waitress and cared about her regular customers and was good at her job. She stood up for herself against her horrible parents and had some great friends & a true family in her corner. But there just seemed to be more to her, like she was hiding something and running. However, the thing that really pissed me off was that once she found out who Taylor was and what he could do for her, in my opinion she started to use him. Taylor deserved better than that.
I really like Taylor. He was funny, determined, and knew what he wanted. Now while some might blame him for his lapse in judgement, I don’t, at least not completely. He would never have done what he did if Falyn had never suggested what she did. And he handled the situation like a man, well mostly. I am not sure if I would have chosen Falyn for Taylor, but that is the thing about love: you can’t help who you fall for. And when a Maddox boy falls in love….
With that being said, I would like to iterate something. I read this particular romance genre as a guilty pleasure. I don't read these books expecting them to change how I see the world. Did I see every single plot twist coming in advance? Yes. Was I surprised by any of them? No. However, I still found the main characters Taylor and Falyn to be likeable enough to keep my attention and making me want to keep reading. Most of the more negative reviews I've read have stated that there was too much angst in the storyline... I get that, but at the same time angst pretty much comes with the romance genre and is to be expected, in my opinion.
The minor characters' plots could have used some work, and at times the story felt rushed. However, I still gave this book 4 stars because it was an entertaining escape from reality, and isn't that the whole point of reading anyways?
So if you know Jamie McGuire then you know how we all fell in love with Travis Maddox and we were introduced to his brothers and begged for more. And more is what Jamie gave us. As I look back and complete the "brother" role call we all loved Travis, we have had the opportunity to know Thomas (whom had a more grown up story and fell in love with Liis despite the heartbreak he had with Camille and to date my second favorite brother), Trenton was a great story but I'm not sure I love Cami the way he does but I rated it well and I loved him at the time, but now we've met Taylor and Falyn and can I say that Taylor has now jumped into the number 2 spot. Taylor has a filthy mouth, great sense of humor, and has never felt anything for a female until he met Falyn. Falyn is so damaged and thinks she is cursed because of baggage that she carries around. Just when you start whooping and hollering (he gets the girl) she changes her mind! For what??? You have to read the story but I will tell you that the ending is so heartbreaking and as a reader you wonder if it will all work out. You want to cheer them on, you want to slap them both, but you definitely need to read the others ahead of this to understand the bond of the brothers and the sacrifices this family will make for one another. For 5 young men who grew up without a mother they know how to treat their women and to get what they want!
This was a long post but if someone wants to know my opinion I want to make sure they get a good feeling so that they will hit they one click button!

I think I had really high expectations for the Maddox Brothers. Travis is up there in my favourite Kindle heroes. He is one of three reasons I developed a near obsession with reading books, especially by Indie authors/ New adult genre [Easy, FSOG being the other two. Despite reading many many books, Travis remains in my Top 5 Kindle Men. As I said, I really loved Trent but Tommy and Taylor.....huh, not so much. But I really wanted to. I'm thinking Tyler is up next but I'm not sure I want to risk another disappointment, although I will probably read it~ the Maddox Brothers keep me curious if nothing else. And I am looking forward to Shep & America's novella. Please don't let me down Tyler......
Written from Falyn's perspective, this story focuses on her, her past and her introduction to Taylor. Falyn has come from a wealthy and politically powerful family but when she breaks from their ideal mould, she turns her back on them and finally sets out to find out who she is whilst coming to terms with her past. Knowing to reach closure she must take a painful journey, she is shocked and surprised to find Taylor may just be the key to unlocking her heart. Taylor is a travelling hotshot working for the U.S. Forest Service and living with danger and excitment in his life he doesn't expect to find what he does in Falyn as their lives reveal a connection they didn't expect.
I felt that this story was a little disjointed and didn't flow at times which in part was probably due to the lack of character development. Some of the side characters seem to appear without any background or explanation and in at least one case (view spoiler) I really didn't see the purpose for the inclusion in the storyline, apart from bringing on a quick rush of tears!
I enjoyed this story overall though. Taylor's personality was sweet and caring and quite endearing but I really couldn't connect to Falyn. I understand that with her background that she finds it hard to trust to people but let's face it, she was a complete cow at times. I really don't know why Taylor persevered with her.
The whole Maddox clan made an appearance as the story overlapped with previous book storylines so if you've missed Abby and Travis never fear they make an albeit brief appearance.
Whilst I still want to read on with this series, I am keen to see something more from the next instalment. This felt rushed at times and possibly came across as a book the author struggled to write or perhaps connect with.
I agree that Beautiful Disaster was special. The characters just drew you in and you wanted them to work no matter what. Everyone wanted to be Abby and definitely wanted a Travis.
In this, I didn't want Taylor and Falyn to work. Why would anyone? She had no redeeming features. He showed he was in love by his actions, she was just a selfish bitch all the time. Her whole outlook was herself. She was constantly awful to him and he just forgave her. How many men in reality do that?
From the start she schemed in order to get to where he lived, the reason wasn't hard to guess but her reaction was muted after her fixation and passion to get there.
Granted during the story Taylor makes a massive mistake but to be honest I thought it served Falyn right after turning him away. It reminded me of Friends...
I kept wanting her to change, that's what's supposed to happen, but it was almost at the end before she did.
It must be hard to follow such a brilliant starting novel as B. D. but I often notice when publishers get involved, novels lose that raw power.
This was written and edited well but I just felt something was missing in character development. It also focused on minutiae, like another reviewer said - filling salt cellars - but later details were glossed over. I think the balance was wrong, too much build up and not enough on the resolution and ending. It just wasn't tight enough. I also wasn't overly sure about all the nastiness with her parents. Again I wondered why the female lead had to have horrible parent(s) same as Abby. I could understand Talyn's attitude but was it all necessary to the story? It didn't really lead anywhere for me.
My copy also downloaded with highlights. As it was quite an expensive book to begin with, I hope this gets sorted out for other readers.
I gave it four stars purely because it was a professional, competent book and was a reasonable read.
Contains sexual situations.
I love all these Maddox brothers and this one is no different.
As with all these books you are enraptured and have to greedily read it all in one go.
While you can read this as a stand alone I would recommend that you read the others in the series, I feel it gives the reader a depth that comes from knowing whats happened before in the fictional family.
