Purchase options and add-ons
Sacred Pregnancy is a gorgeous four-color book especially created for mothers-to-be to reflect on the many personal milestones of the full gestation period of a pregnancy. With beautiful professional photos that correspond to each topic, Sacred Pregnancy also features a journal space for the pregnant woman to record her thoughts and feelings. Each week the mother-to-be is given information on her baby, her body, and her spirit and is asked to reflect on these via the topic of the week, which touches on a variety of issues such as sexuality, fears about labor, becoming a mother, courage, rite of passage, adornment, body image, meditation, and sisterhood to name a few. Mothers-to-be are invited to look deeply at the issues unique to their journey and find a centered, peaceful place to live their pregnancy fully. Lastly, Sacred Pregnancy includes place for the new mother to record her birth story and a large resource section on various birthing options and supports for pregnant women.
“From the spiritual (how to visualize your perfect birth) to the practical (a large section on birthing options), this pregnancy journal is a spiritual adviser and supportive doula all in one.”

When going through the book the artwork of different women was just amazing to see their joy with not only their pregnancy but with their bodies. I think for many women who struggle with body image these pictures will be very empowering and uplifting. The pictures of nature brought to mind how the mother earth supports us and when women are with child there is that call to go back to the earth to feel supported as well as our role to support Mother Nature. There are books where you read where all cold, sterile white paper is used; this book used colored glossy pages which were just so comforting and visually calming. From a monetary stand point I do know that white paper would have been cheaper, yet I’m glad Anni splurged and printed her writing on thick, glossy and colored paper.
With my son being almost 19 years old I did not think the topics would be helpful to me since at this point there was nothing I could do about the thoughts I had before he was born. And I won’t say I was resentful for having this on my to do list yet it was not a high priority, since I could not go back in time. However, that soon changed for me as I got a few weeks into the book! I know at the beginning I did not think one could go back in time and I’ve even wrote that down but I was wrong. I did not have any journals and frankly I did not have that many memories of the time I was pregnant with Caleb due to the way my life at that time was. Yet reading this book I was amazed at the issues that came up for me and how more in depth my journal writing has been on these topics. Week 24 on having a boy sparked a great talk with my son over a nice dinner out for just the two of us. And with that I feel it has drawn us a little closer to each other.
I believe that with the beauty of the book (again woo hoo for the artwork and paper) more women will be drawn to this book and the Sacred Living Movement. Any woman can go to their local bookstore and find books on pregnancy and what happens week by week. Yet none of these books bring the spirit to the womb. Which is something this book does from page one to the very last. I believe that the more we can get this book and the Sacred Living Moment into the hands of women the more self-empowerment we can show other women that they have. Self love, self education and a return to their spirit will also come from this book and with that I believe that we can change lives of women for the better.
One more area I feel would improve with the spreading of this work is if we have informed, loving and empowered women I believe that we can then make some real and improved changes in how we view birth in this country. Pregnant women can change the way their doctors, hospitals and other family members think and how they see a woman with child.
Again I loved this book and what it brought to me so that bring this message to other women. Even with my being post childbearing age I will always keep this sacred work on my alter at home as well as the writings and feelings behind the words in my heart. I believe this book and the Sacred movement behind it will bring beauty, comfort and joy to women worldwide that only another woman can bring.
Various topics sprinkled throughout the book during the weeks include diet prep/nutrition, Relationships (growing & maintaining), Remaining Mindful during your pregnancy, bonding both with your baby, and your partner during this time, self-nurturing, addressing fears, empowerment, the importance of support from your "tribe" and yes, sexuality.
At the end of each week there are pairing suggestions of websites, movies, websites, musical suggestions and overall helpful resources that are both birth related and just simply refreshing, inspirational and uplifting.
The Journal sections are beautiful provide enough space for you to record your thoughts after reading.
Once the weeks are done, the book is still offering wonderful information. The pages yet again, are graced with the words of Dr. Robert Biter. “The Stages of Labor”, transition, birthing your placenta and recovery.
In short, Sacred Pregnancy is down to earth, relatable support and education full of real speak and resources. Clearly pro informed choice and places emphasis on connection to yourself, your baby, the earth, your spirit and those around you. This book is very informative and Anni, the author, recommends the mother take birthing classes, seek out birth support such as a Doula and other team members that are in alignment with her birthing desires and philosophy. It is clear this book is not a replacement for comprehensive education, but an amazing companion to address the gaps in todays, consumerist culture that we have grown to know surrounding pregnancy and birth.
