Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is book is not for one looking for an easy read. It is fantastically researched and thoroughly investigated, though at times Dr. Farrer steps in places that have no footing. It is thought provoking, challenging, and imaginative in ways that most critiques are not, as the subject matter has an air of mysteriousness about it. Have no doubt, this is an academic work of critique and exploration, but if you make the journey through the pages treasures are to be found.

I love Austin Farrer. One of this traits is to admit when he can improve on his earlier work. 14 years after this book, he published "The Revelation of St. John the Divine: A commentary on the English text." Here is what he says in the preface of that later book. "Fourteen years ago I published a study in the Revelation of St. John, under the title 'A Rebirth of Images.' ... I have been led bit by bit to alter the detail of the exposition greatly. I hope that the result is simpler and more unified." So you may want to consider picking up the later volume instead of this one.
