Come on ... sure you can experience some relief when you change yr immediate circumstances but these changes are NOT permanent in the case of genuine illness, physical or mental - we all know about the power of the Placebo Effect (known to persist for a matter of months).
It is more an account of his own personal experiences, which are quite substantial, but which are only true for his own self with regard to being able to benefit others.
“You really have to just love this man .”
Dr. Noah was one of the most brilliant men I have ever met and he touched the lives of so many. He has been gone now for over a decade and I still lament what a great loss Dr. Noah has been for humanity. Gone too soon, it is hard to imagine how much more he had to give.
I really wanted to like this book, because I heard McKay speak on NPR and agree with most of what he is promoting. (Western medicine is not the culmination & epitome of healing. When it comes to your health and well-being, it's better to trust your own instincts than an MD who is treating you like nothing more than a collection of symptoms and a receptacle for his pharmaceutical suppliers' products. Your mind and your emotions have a lot to do with your physical health or lack of the same. Hospitals are not always the best place to recover from illness. Quantum physics may explain "miraculous" recoveries from illnesses that are usually fatal. Etc. Etc.)
Unfortunately, reading this book is like being invited to a dinner...and having your host offer you nothing more than a detailed description of the meal he ate yesterday. Some readers of this book are hungrier than I am, and therefore will be more disappointed than I am. There is a distinct lack of substance to this book.
I gave it a point for the chapter on quantum physics and how it relates to wellness. I took a point away because of the photos of Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Nelson Mandela on the pages where McKay describes his year in prison. (Such nerve, comparing himself to those men, when he was imprisoned because of insurance billing fraud.) It got a point because of the unusual design of the pages, and another for the reproductions of McKay's paintings...and lost one due to the hideous cover design. Another point for the recommended reading list at the end. Hopefully one or more of those books will provide some real information.
Noah McKay is a doctor who graduated from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and was doing well in is chosen profession but then the unexpected hit: At the age of thirty-three Dr. McKay came down with the terminal illness cardiomyalgia. He was given only months to live by the doctor treating his condition. Then Noah's intuition took over. Seemingly out of nowhere he decided he would go to on vacation to Mazatlán to seek rest and respite. And while in Mazatlán Noah came across a yogi who, after hearing about Noah's condition, introduced him to the breath of fire exercise. Thus began Noah McKay's recovery...
In Wellness at Warp Speed: Your Health, Your Destiny, Your Choice Dr. Noah McKay brings home what he has learned in his life; from his medical training, two decades of practice, his own self-healing, other holistic approaches to health and healing as well as his own personal tragedy - having done time in federal prison due to a plea bargin for billing fraud. The author not only lets you know his own story but also takes pains to explain much of the science of quantum physics which lies behind our bodies' healing processes.
I was originally recommended this book by a friend of mine who is a "health nut" and I found the book informative and easy to read. I would love to have seen more examples in the book of people who have actually healed themselves because quite often I learn best by looking at the examples of the successes and failures of others. But again, maybe this wasn't the purpose Noah McKay had in mind. If so, I would like to see a follow up to this book in the future that focuses more on this aspect of healing. I look forward to it!
