About the Author

David Yost is a professor of international relations at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He has written extensively on European security issues, particularly regarding France and NATO. During 1996–97, Yost was a senior fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.

This is an excellent book about NATO and its actions and policies up until the Ukraine crisis. Unfortunately the author was not able to write about the current crisis but considering the wealth of information currently out there about it, its not too much of a loss. The book is comprehensive and well written, highly recommended for anyone looking to get a baseline start on what NATO is all about and the current security environment (with the exception of recent events in Ukraine, of course).
