Editorial Reviews
Review
While this insight into the backstory of Diablo III is very welcome, at least half the draw of the Book of Cain was in its gorgeous illustrations, the sort of images you only find in concept artwork, except more fully fleshed out and featuring a greater degree of detail. The Book of Tyrael continues this tradition, and is described as featuring stunning original art throughout.’”The Escapist

Now, a pointer, as I also got the Book of Cain at the exact same time (has same binding issue, btw). IF you can't decide on which to purchase, I recommend Cain's over this one. They both have almost the exact same info, with this one giving more insight into the events going on in heaven between D3 and Reaper. If you are a completionist, go for both, as there are a few tidbits in each that the other doesn't have but if I were to chose the better of the two, it is the other.
The authors of this book (Matt Burns and Doug Alexander) had quite the task of matching the wonderful writing of Book of Cain (Flint Dille). I am happy to say that they were up to the challenge, and the writing of this book, is every bit as good as what was put forth, by Flint Dille.
As a complete Diablo lore nerd, I cannot begin to describe my anticipation for this particular lore book. I will most assuredly be re-reading this, many more times, before the release of, Reaper of Souls. I am left both satiated, and still wanting more!
If you are looking for more Diablo content, this is what you "should" buy! (Note the word "should!")
For now my friends, is where It breaks my heart, to talk about the flaws of this potentially wonderful book, the printing.
The Book of Cain, was designed and printed with wonderfully detailed artwork, great pagination, smart use of switching between printed and hand-written text. At no time was the TEXT ever unreadable!
Most of this book is suppose to look like Book of Cain pages glued to modern pages.
While I can surely appreciate the artistic intent, the coloring of these pages, is just too dark.
The black text on DARKLY colored backgrounds makes several words in the book unreadable!!!
Far too many of pages are only readable if you have a direct light beaming down onto the book.
For those of you who think I am probably just going blind, let me assure you that I do wear either glasses, or contacts, and have my vision checked yearly. This is not a case of eyesight.
The sections of the book, that do not exhibit this problem are Tyrael's own pages, these are black text, on a greyish background, and are quite pleasant to read.
However, since MOST of this book's content is meant to come from other notes and journals, kept by Deckard Cain, this means that a lot of content is difficult to actually read!
Not all of these "historical" pages are unreadable, in fact the inconsistency, in which each page is readable is absurd. I truly do not know if this was the result of a flaw in the printing process, or overuse of artist intent.
I WANT to recommend this to every Diablo nut out there, but I can't.
The content is so worth paying for, but just not in this format.
Buy it, if you must, but be prepared to read this in the noon-day sun, or with a flashlight.
This books is beautiful and I love all of Blizzards Lore books. The art it amazing, the stories are awesome and the quality of this - being a paperback - is superb.
Top reviews from other countries
The imagery and artwork are excellent and tie the lore of the lesser evils etc together well with the story driven by the game.
The actual cover looks very authentic and goes well on any bookshelf, especially when placed next to the other Diablo tomes.
