This caring author attempts to explain causes of sickness to those of us not well educated in such deep thoughtful information. He uses many medical and psychological terms with examples, and his explanations, skills and Faith God the Father and Creator, are totally reasonable and convincing of the real truth. I will use this book as a reference, and continue to re-read.

With our health care system at its breaking point, it is incumbent upon each of us to learn how to better take care of ourselves. Is it conceivable that disease is a blessing, not a curse-a biological solution to internal imbalances created by unresolved inner conflicts, lifestyle, environmental toxins, and infectious agents? Author and doctor Pieter J. De Wet sheds new light on why and how you get sick and guides you through the most critical steps on how to gain your health back in Heal Thyself: Transform Your Life, Transform Your Health. 'Every patient should read this book in order to gain optimum health. Heal Thyself helps even the novice patient understand how most illnesses actually develop and how the patient can take responsibility for their own recovery using safe, effective, noninvasive techniques.' -William Lee Cowden, MD, MD(H) By understanding the purpose of disease and its root causes, the solutions become readily apparent. Follow Dr. De Wet's twelve-week plan, and let Heal Thyself empower you to embrace these solutions and no longer feel that you are at the mercy of unpredictable and devastating scourges.

Finally, a well written book on the power within to heal oneself that is both scientifically sound and spiritually aware. Everyone who is interested in taking charge of their own health management should keep a copy in their library and on their Kindle.

Dr. De Wet does a great job of introducing a better way to look at our health and healing our own bodies.

This review is based on the audiobook, which was read by the author, Dr. De Wet.
Of course, books like "Heal Thyself" appeal to people who are sick. Why would you need to "heal" yourself if you weren't sick? In that aspect, "Heal Thyself" is fairly standard information for anyone that has ever been into alternative medicine. Where it does differ is that Dr. De Wet briefly gets into "quantum" healing, and is more focused on the whole body than alternative medicine typically was back in the day (e.g. take this vitamin to ease that symptom).
One of the things I think is important is that Dr. De Wet does not just focus on treating symptoms. This is important because so many people focus on the disease, when, in fact, the disease in most cases is the body's attempt at self-healing.
"Heal Thyself" is worthy of reading because it is a good summary of a wide range of information, but it is also good because Dr. De Wet does break some new ground, as well. For me, the new ground was recall therapy, which I can't say I have ever heard of before. Recall therapy is based on solving health problems that arose from a repressed memory (or memories) of a traumatic event that happened in the past. Having no experience with recall therapy, I can't say that Dr. De Wet really sold me on it, either, but I enjoy hearing new information and will look into it a little more in the future.
Another area Dr. De Wet gets into is quantum physics as it relates to healing, which is an area I have really been interested in. Here he mentions Lynne McTaggart's "The Field," a personal favorite, and presents information similar to what might be found in the DVD "The Living Matrix." This information will be a good introduction for people unfamiliar with the information, but does not contain enough new information to offer to people already familiar with it, in my opinion.
The diet/exercise information sections of the book were good. In my experience, it does make sense to avoid certain foods if you have certain problems. For instance, if you tend to have fungal or candida problems, not eating a lot of fruits makes for sensible advice.
That being said, I'm going to point out that the healthiest people in the world do not sit around trying to eat certain foods, for instance, to maximize the amount of omega-3 fatty acids in their diet. No, they eat the foods they have access to, which usually includes more plant-based foods and less meat than what we eat in America. They also get exercise and sunshine, and have rich family and spiritual lives, to a degree that we do not have here.
I have been doing a lot of research into this lately and the shocking thing is that, while there are no disease-free locations in the world, there are places all over the world that have a fraction of the degenerative diseases -- heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high-blood pressure, inflammatory disease, etc. -- that we have here in the US.
If you are sick, "Heal Thyself" will be a good book for you and worth the money. But I'm going to recommend a few books that explain why you got sick in the first place:
* The China Study, T. Colin Campbell
* The Jungle Effect: Healthiest Diets from Around the World--Why They Work and How to Make Them Work for You, by Daphne Miller
* The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who've Lived the Longest by Dan Buettner
* Ancient Wisdom for Modern Health (Wisdoms of health) by Mark Bunn (get the audiobook)
Dr. De Wet's office, located in Tyler, Texas, is approximately an hour drive for me. I hope to be so well that I never have to meet him as a patient, but it is nice to know there is someone that thinks outside the box within driving distance of me.

Heal Thyself by Dr. Pieter DeWet has been an essential resource for me personally and in my health and fitness business. On a regular basis I am sharing bits of information from the book with my clients to give them a better understanding of the importance of knowing and implementing these particular simple and cost effective strategies for their health and the health of their loved ones.

Pieter has summed up the current state of affairs regarding what some call the health care crisis. The real crisis (I believe) is a result of people failing to take personal responsibility for their health. The money driven food, medical and drug industries combined with the entitlement/blame mentality plague have created the perfect storm. Farming out your health to someone else completely makes no sense and gives rise to corruption. The only thing missing from our Constitution in the United States is Medical Freedom.
Pieter is a loving and caring person and one whom I have personally entrusted with my health for years. I believe this book is a perfect starting point for people to begin their quest for good health. Having a medical doctor guide you through is a wonderful thing when the doctor has the proper perspective. Prove all things and test all things.
Congratulations Pieter, this is a wonderful book, David

Comprehensive and yet easy to read --- a lot easier than the medical texts! Pieter you've shared from the experiences of a lifetime and of your entire career! Vast amount of information combined succinctly here as a living resource to support our health and lifelong enjoyment. Insights surprised me, eg. an "illness" can actually be the healing stage of a different condition. This is a valuable contribution to help satisfy our search for health.
