Todd Porter and Diane Cu are photographers who publish the immensely popular food, gardening, and lifestyle blog WhiteonRiceCouple.com. Inspired by their love of cooking, growing vegetables and over 38 fruit trees in their suburban garden, Todd and Diane love sharing recipes that are fresh and seasonally simple. Their cookbook, Bountiful ,offers 100 seasonal, flavorful, and approachable recipes, 90 of which have not been seen on the blog, each featuring a vegetable or fruit as the star of the meal. Blueberry Frangipane Tarts, Wilted Mizuna Shrimp Salad, Blood Orange Bars and Gin Cocktail with Pomegranate & Grapefruit are just a few examples of recipes that are inspired from their garden bounty.

Peppered with personal stories from Todd's childhood on a cattle ranch in Oregon and Diane's journey from Vietnam to the United States, this cookbook shares the couples' beautiful love story as well as their diverse recipes that reflects their love of fresh and healthy produce, seasonally ripe fruit and sharing a home cooked meal with those you love.

About the Author

Todd Porter and Diane Cu are professional food photographers and stylists and publish the acclaimed food, recipe, and lifestyle blog WhiteonRiceCouple.com. They are also avid gardeners, busy home cooks and encourage others to share meals with those they love. The popularity of their blog stems from their shared stories of life and food that connect us all. Beyond the blog, their professional work includes clients such as Whole Foods, Williams-Sonoma, Thermador, KitchenAid, Food & Wine Magazine, and the Cooking Channel. They are also photography instructors, teach speciality cooking classes and are sought-after speakers at industry conferences. Todd and Diane have been featured in Sunset magazine, Food & Wine Magazine, Los Angeles Times and on the Cooking Channel.

"This book walks a direct line of inspiration from Todd and Diane's garden to a beautiful collection of produce-forward recipes. It captures the vitality of simply prepared, seasonal ingredients (whether you grow them or buy them), and their enthusiasm is infectious."
-- Heidi Swanson, author of
Super Natural Every Day

"Brillat-Savarin famously wrote, 'Tell me what you eat and I'll tell you who you are.' The California corollary to this would be 'Tell me what you grow and I'll tell you what you eat.' For so many of us, our kitchens are inextricably linked to our gardens and nobody has captured this union better than Todd Porter and Diane Cu in their perfectly named new book
Bountiful."
-- Russ Parsons, food editor for the
Los Angeles Times

"There has never been a book more aptly named than
Bountiful. Bursting at the seams with lush, inviting photographs and inspired seasonal recipes, this is a cookbook you'll turn to over and over, from summer to winter and back again. The only problem, as far as I can see, is where to start: the savory butternut squash crumble, the honeydew salad with riesling and mint, or maybe the blood orange bars with a brown butter crust?"
-- Molly Wizenberg, author of
A Homemade Life

Bountiful celebrates the amazing garden Diane Cu and Todd Porter tend where they live in Southern California. The book is organized by type of vegetable, fruit, herb, etc. This approach helps the home cook quickly pick the dishes to make according to what's in season. I also found it straightforward to plan meals, pairing dishes according to what I had on my counter or had picked up at the farmers market.

I've been cooking from Bountiful for the last few weeks and the food is delightful. The dishes are easy to prepare, unfussy and full of flavor. The roasted pluots are a great example -- roast them in the oven with a little brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and out come the naturally sweet flavors of late-in-the-season pluots. The thyme that's added to the pan infuses the pluots with an earthy essence that adds dimension. Deceptively simple to make, but complex in flavor.

One of our favorites is the elegant to look at, but easy-to-make Fig and Gorgonzola Pillows. My family loved the combination of savory cooked onions, salty prosciutto, luscious sweet figs and pungent gorgonzola, which sit on top of a buttery, puff pastry base. While Todd and Diane include a puff pastry recipe in the book, store-bought high-quality puff pastry works very well. The pastries are impressive to look at, and the flavors work together beautifully.

We also really enjoyed the Spinach and Bacon Salad with Avocado Vinaigrette. I made it last weekend as a side salad, but with that special dressing (it includes a tiny bit of soy sauce that really adds depth), I expect it be in rotation throughout the year. I'll add grilled chicken or salmon to make it a main rather than a side salad, too.

One sweet recipe on my short list is great example of refreshing a classic. Who doesn't love lemon bars? In Todd and Diane's case, they swapped blood oranges for lemons -- the color of the curd is beautiful -- and they replaced the traditional crust with a brown butter version. I'm keeping an eye on my favorite citrus farmer at the farmers market. As soon as he's got blood oranges to sell, I'm baking these bars.

Whether you have a garden, frequent your local farmers market, or shop at the grocery store, you'll find dishes you love and inspiration in Bountiful.

This diary of recipes is an exquisite work of art that will far succeed your expectations for a cookbook. Todd & Diane's poetic 'love affair' with the bounty that Southern Cali brings them will keep you anticipating what's on the next page . Fool-proof recipes full of fresh veggies written with clear directions and stories that will introduce food to you in a new perspective. The herbs and leafy greens section is one of my favorite sections. I remember reading the introduction and I couldn't put it down. As a chef & food blogger I admire the WROC's respect & admiration for all things culinary. Their phenomenal aesthetic and capability to tell a story through minimal words and delicious recipes will bring out the 'food lover' in any unsuspecting reader. I look forward to following their journey and bountiful is just the beginning of bigger things to come.

I ADORE this cookbook! The photos are gorgeous and so tantalizing! I've already made several dishes, each of which came out wonderfully, and I've given it away as a much-beloved gift. Todd and Diane explain their dishes articulately and simply, making even intimidating creations, like homemade phyllo dough, easy and fun. This book inspires me not only as a cook, but as a gardener. It's a fantastic purchase, especially if you enjoy fruits and vegetables. In the opening pages, the "White on Rice Couple" share their story--such a beautiful one. The book is organized by ingredient, making it a perfect accompaniment as the seasons change and new delicacies line your farmer's market stands. Treat yourself to this fantastic book!

I have to say I'm prejudiced because this couple lives in our neighborhood. Though I have never met them, I follow their blog and knew something of them before the book came out. They are known for their food photography, and in this book, their photos shine! They also are quite creative cooks. The book contains a good variety and selection of veggie recipes as well as others. They also have some good cocktail recipes.

As a Chef and Food Photographer/Stylist I have throughly enjoyed this book as Todd Porter and Diane Cu have truly captured the essence of food. From the opening chapters where they share their backgrounds and how they love to inspire, cook, and bring friends together, to forming their company 'White On Rice' it is evident this couple loves food! Starting with their garden they inspire the reader to get outside and start planting a garden! Then in a wonderful way they transcend from the garden to how to prepare and cook the garden Vegetables and Fruit. If you are not hungry when you pick up this book I guarantee you will be as the photographs just pop off the pages! Make a resolution for 2016 and pick up a copy of this book and change your life!

I purchased this book on the day it was officially released and received it the very next day on my doorstep! It is breathtaking - it looks more like a coffee table book rather than a cookbok, packed with photos and recipes and bound in a sturdy and beautiful cover. I haven't had enough time to page through the entire book, even though it is sitting under my desk at work right now as I type this. (I couldn't resist bringing it with me today!) Having followed Diane & Todd's blog for a while now, I know these recipes won't fall short of amazing. This would be a wonderful gift for anyone who likes to cook, but especially wonderful for anyone who likes to cook using items they have grown themselves. Thank you for sharing your art!
