Editorial Reviews
Review
“Kathy Hester has done it again. In this fabulous new cookbook she transforms the modest little oat from understated to remarkable!” ―Allyson Kramer, author of Sweet Eats for All and Great Gluten-Free Vegan Eats
“If, like me, you thought uses for oats started and stopped at breakfast, prepare to be pleasantly surprised by Kathy Hester's latest cookbook. These sweet and savory recipes span every meal, each making creative use of the humble oat.” ―Natalie Slater, author of Bake and Destroy
“I am a fanatic when it comes to oatmeal and oats, but after delving into OATrageous Oatmeals, Kathy has truly opened my eyes to just how versatile this humble ingredient is. Sausage Crumbles? Dry Chez Powder? How did I go on living so long without them? I can't wait to work my way through this cookbook in its entirety.” ―Jackie Sobon, food blogger at Vegan Yack Attack and food photographer
“If you thought that oats had to be relegated to breakfast time alone, Kathy Hester will prove you wrong in the most creative and appealing way. With recipes such as Pepperoni Crumbles (yes, made with oats!) and Easy Oat Roti, you'll find there's no limit to what oats will do for you.” ―Celine Steen, co-author of The Complete Guide to Vegan Food Substitutions, Vegan Finger Foods and more

My 3-star rating is based solely on the recipe selection and the recipes I've tried, however I want to add for anyone that, like me, has a problem with the "dumbing down" of the English language. Again, this has no bearing on my rating. I found the reading of this book to be quite annoying. Among other things, The word "veggie" was used over and over. I can't stand that word being used by any (even moderately) intelligent person over the age of 2. Vegetables were referred to all throughout the book, and not once did the author take the time to type out the word v-e-g-e-t-a-b-l-e. Even my 3 year old twin boys (try to) say the word properly. That said, I would still use this book and would have rated it higher had I found the recipes better to my liking.
That's the risk you run I guess, buying cookbooks online. You can't sufficiently look through them before purchasing. Had I had that opportunity, I would not have bought it.
I can't wait to try all of the recipes, and I'm sure this book will stand with The Great Vegan Bean Book and Vegan Slow Cooking as one of my most beloved and used cookbooks.
Four stars because of the book itself. Some have praised the fonts, I hate them - why medium/dark grey on shiny white pages? That combined with small print and glare from the page makes the recipes very hard to see, if you have glasses or trouble seeing you'll need a magnifying glass to help you. Also the binding is cheap - you can feel the pages separating as you bend them lay the book flat and I can tell already that with use they're going to start falling out; some pages are already loose. Still worth buying for the recipes just be prepared for the book to be less than user friendly.
