"It's New Year's resolution time, and Mark Cuban's new book offers the rationale for a good one." ―BUSINESS INSIDER

Using the greatest material from his popular Blog Maverick, Cuban has collected and updated his postings on business and life to provide a catalog of insider knowledge on what it takes to become a thriving entrepreneur. He tells his own rags-to-riches story of how he went from selling powdered milk and sleeping on friends' couches to owning his own company and becoming a multi-billion dollar success story. His unconventional yet highly effective ideas on how to build a successful business offer entrepreneurs at any stage of their careers a huge edge over their competitors.

"In short, [HOW TO WIN AT THE SPORT OF BUSINESS] exceeded...expectations. Short chapters...got right to the point and were not filled with 'stuffing'." ―HUFFINGTON POST

Game on.
This is a book that's realistic. One can relate to it in many ways. The best part is that at every turning point in Marks life, I could not only empathize but also see parallels in my life. If he can do it. So can I. Game on.

Even though my parents aren't Chinese, they still wanted me to become a doctor growing up. I am not a doctor currently. I never wanted to become a doctor and I still don’t. My dream was to become a professional basketball player. Given the high competition and the low success rate, I realized I couldn't do what I so passionately strived for.

Those who can, do; Those who can’t, teach; And those who can’t teach sometimes write a book. This is the logic that helped me decide I should become a basketball coach instead. That way I wasn't giving up on my basketball dream entirely.

I came across Mark Cuban’s book. I took a look at the cover and misread the title. This led me to safely assume this was a book about how to win at basketball. Knowing Mark is a notorious billionaire entrepreneur, but mainly also the outspoken owner of the Mavericks, I decided to buy the book.

To my surprise when it arrived, I realized it was actually a book about winning at the sport of BUSSINESS. Not wanting to let it go to waste, I read it and can tell you, that it was one of the best reads I’ve ever done.

In this book Mark expresses his way of thinking, and explains his motivation and drive. He does this while giving specific examples through various instances off his life. Within this book, you can find great life advice, at a very cost friendly price.

Buying and reading this book will do 3 things:
- Help you get familiar with who Mark Cuban is, as a thinker and a doer.
- Motivate you to work hard and aim for that goal you have.
- Make Mark Cuban even richer.

Although I put my coaching dream on hold until Mark writes a book about how to win in the sport of BASKETBALL, I became motivated and am using his advice in every way possible. I hope that through this book, you too can find that motivation you need.

This is the second straight book I've read on Mark Cuban and I enjoyed this one much more than the one from last week.

It's not a traditional book, but rather a collection of blog posts written by Mark on his advice for attaining success. I really enjoyed his style of writing and I liked hearing the story from his perspective.

What I really enjoyed was hearing about the POS car he drove, the two cheap polyester suits he owned, and when he first started how he slept on a couch or floor in an apartment with a bunch of other dudes. Not sure why, but this part really resonated with me. 😉Mark wasn't born into wealth and earned everything he has by working his tail off amongst the other lessons he shares.

The end of the book gives Mark's twelve mantras for success as follows:

1 - Time is More Valuable than Money
2- Commit Random Acts of Kindness
3 - No Balls, No Babies
4 - Work Hard, Play Hard
5 - Don't Let Fear be a Roadblock
6 - Expect the Unexpected, and Always be Ready
7 - It's Okay to Yell and be Yelled at
8 - Everyone gets Down: The Key is How Soon You get Back Up
9 - It's not Whether the Glass is Half Empty or Half Full, it's Who is Pouring the Water
10 - It's Not the Dreaming, it's in the Doing
11 - Pigs get Fat, Hogs get Slaughtered
12 - You Only Have to be Right Once!

The book was published in November of 2011. It is but 73 pages but has great content. Amazon has 876 ratings for a score of 4.5. Goodreads has 3,284 ratings for a 4.02 with 247 reviews. While I'm not in 100% agreement with Mark on some of his thoughts and ideas, there's certainly enough value here to give it a strong rating and recommend it. Now, onto the other books from the sharks on my bookshelf!

The book overall is very easy to follow and brings a lot of inspiration. I wish it was a bit longer or have a more formal structure but still a really helpful book.

I was able to read this in one day. Its only about 100 pages long, written in a easy-to-digest format.

I've been a business owner for almost 6 years now, and learned a LOT by watching Shark Tank, The Profit, etc. - as well as reading a lot of business books.
Like Mr. Cuban says in this work, a book or magazine may cost $5, $20, but if it has even one idea that you can apply to your business, its worth it!

I would 10/10 recommend this. It for sure has some nuggets of takeaway that are worth the price
