Inner Child Cards: A Fairy-Tale Tarot Cards – December 15, 2001
Purchase options and add-ons
• Uses the important archetypes of childhood fairy tales to awaken emotional memory and heal the child within.
• Excellent for dream work, the recovery process, and use with children.
Inner Child Cards is a tarot system that helps us interact with the world's most potent archetypes. The authors assign an archetypal childhood story to each image in the traditional tarot deck. Cinderella aligns with the Moon card, traditionally associated with the power of dreams and visions. Sleeping Beauty parallels the Death card with its theme of personal metamorphosis. Little Red Cap stands in for the Fool (the innocent).
Before the Age of Reason higher learning was transmitted through archetypal characters in stories and fairy tales. In modern times these all-important stories have been relegated to a secondary position, with no recognition of their deeper meaning. The whimsical art and familiar characters of the Inner Child Cards will awaken dormant emotional memory that has been trapped in long-forgotten childhood stories. Tarot has always had an uncanny capacity to act as a "hall of mirrors" reflecting the true trajectory of life. By referencing fairy-tale archetypes, Inner Child Cards gives adults an especially clear reflection of the child within and imaginative access to the soul's own personal truth. And because of their playful nature, these cards are equally well suited for use with children.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2024Super difficult to find with both the cards and the book. The cards are huge which will make them difficult to shuffle, but it's ok because there are different ways to shuffle and the details of the pictures are easier to see. Due to the large size of the cards, the thickness is less sturdy than I'm used to. All in all, it's a sort of novelty deck, best used for limited occasions to preserve the cards. I don't regret buying them.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2006I have around 20 Tarot decks and I got this one in just this week. I have to say it is one of my very favorite decks already. The artwork is brilliant and almost child-like, but beautifully enlightening. The suits are hearts (cups), crystals (pentacles), magic wands (wands) and swords. The cards relate to characters from well-known fairy tales. The Fool card is Little Red Riding Hood.
The accompanying book very succinctly and eloquently describes the meaning/tales behind each card. It's a very positive, uplifting and upbeat deck. I did the five card C-H-I-L-D reading (described in the book) this morning and it was right-on, as if the cards had known me from the get-go. I don't think I've ever gotten such a wonderful first-time reading from a new deck.
I have to disagree with the reviewer who said this deck isn't for beginners. I think this deck stands alone and that anyone could quickly learn the basics of Tarot with it.
The cards are over-sized but easy to shuffle diagonally. They come in a sturdy storage box which holds the cards and book nicely. I highly recommend this set if you're ready to learn more about yourself and this journey we call life.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2011I am terminally ill, and I purchased these to see if they could be a form of comfort & guidance. First of all I have never seen a more beautiful set of tarot cards. The artwork is just amazing, from the ornate and delicate borders to the central images. Each and every card is so highly intuitive: you could pull any card and just gaze and gaze at it and find so many meanings and surprises. Large sized cards, but they are easy to shuffle using the side-by-side technique. The very large guidebook that comes with the cards takes you by the hand and gently into the cards and its world of tender, humane fairytales. It has helped me immeasurably as a sorce of comfort, guidance, tenderness in my illness.. I would recommend these to ANYONE who is: ill or elderly, or trying to recover from an emotional trauma of some sort (divorce, bad relationship, loss of loved one, etc.) These cards are a godsend.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024I own many decks and this is the worst card stock quality I’ve ever seen. They do not shuffle without folding/bending and being damaged. The cards are made of what seems to be photo printing paper. Horrible. I had to return them and even pay to do so.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2019It is a shame that such a conceptually and artistically appealing deck is printed on flimsy, very thin stock. For the price they should re-issue this product with card stock that respects the artists and users. Be for-warned.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2017This is a great book and card set. I have a few sets of cards but never settled on a Tarot that I liked or properly understood. The authors have done a lot of research and put a lot of goodness into this set. Each time I open the book I feel empowered and learn continually. Love the artwork and the easy to follow descriptions, while it takes a while to get to read for others the authors have a way of putting it together.

Beautiful and amazing deck. Very happy with it!
KpReviewed in India on May 9, 20224.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful imagery on terrible cardstock
Yes the cards are thin like beyond belief but what would have been a deal breaker for a different deck seems to not matter for this one. The box set actually is super heavy. The book has large font and that is definitely a plus.
I just received it and haven't read with it yet but the images did touch my heart. My inner child definitely smiled looking at the colours and scenes and the wistful energy in the deck.
The book has some interesting insights and suggestions about using the deck. Which is saying something cause I usually find most author instructions limiting. I like the layout called CHILD. Should be fun and revealing. I look forward to playing with this new colourful messenger .
I am quite enchanted. And I think it'll work though some stories don't really fit the archetypes as I understand them. Who cares. I love the pictures! I let my inner child do what she wants. Mind be damned.
