John Schabel's series of photographs depicting anonymous airline passengers effectively captures the curious blend of impersonal efficiency and poignant humanity that pervades the experience of contemporary commercial air travel. Like products on an assembly line, the planes carrying Schabel's subjects churn down the runway; and with the same regularity the individual passengers emerge, identically framed, from his camera and onto the gallery wall. About the Author

John Schabel was born in 1957 in Montana. He attended Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT, and School of Visual Arts, New York City where he studied art and filmmaking. His photographs have been shown in galleries in the U. S. and Europe and are in various museum collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His photographic projects tend toward lengthy examinations of precise subjects or situations.
