Miyoko Ihara graduated from the Nippon Photography Institute in 2002. Around that time, she began photographing her grandmother, Misao, in order to document her life. One day, Iharas grandmother found an odd-eyed kitten in the shed. She named the cat Fukumaru, and since then the two have been inseparable. This touching and beautiful photo book captures the everyday life of elderly Misao and her steadfast feline companion, following them as together they work in the fields, admire spring blossoms, or nap in the sun. Both friends are hard of hearing, so it is endearing to witness the strength of their connection, enacted through sight and physical presence.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

It’s beautiful and is also OJ approved (the cat)
This book was a gift for a close friend of mine who absolutely loves cats. Her eyes lit up the first time she was telling me about it and I wanted to do something nice for her.

the photography itself is beautiful, but where this book excels is showing the close relationship of an old lady and her pet cat. This is the book you keep close by, and on those rainy blah days, pick it up and page through it. Joyful.

Wonderful photos. Each one invites us into the relationship that exists between Big Mama and Fukumaru the cat--to feel the love, friendship, and mutual caring for one another. It is a small book with a big heart.

I got two copies for gifts and I'm not sorry. It is quite lovely. At the price I imagined more pages and larger ones, which is on me because it clearly lists the weight, number of pages, length, and width. I think it is a bit over twice the Japan price. If you wait there may be an English edition in a larger format at a lower price (or not.) Knowing then what I know now I still would have purchased it, it is perfect for the recipients.

This is one of those books that you pick up, browse the photos (I don't read Japanese), put down and pick up again and again. The shipping was rapid for the miles it had to travel and arrived well wrapped and protected. Those who love animals will not be disappointed with the financial investment to get this little book across the globe into your home. It is a treasure for everyone who has loved and animal and loved a grandparent and loved an aging parent. Priceless.

Wonderful gift for my pops! My pen pall told me about this book and I fell in love with its photos immediately! I knew I had to get the book for myself or a gift at some point. The book doesn't disappoint: All the photos are wonderfully captured and flawlessly printed and bound into a well constructed (slightly smaller than I expected) book. It's always a pleasure to flip through and glimpse into the life of these two charming beings. GOOD FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES NICE THINGS!

A beautiful book, but be aware that the covers are backward, one of the issues when being printed in Japan, where books are opposite US printing.

I got a version of this book n Japanese, which my speaks. He loved it. and you do not have to read the book to enjoy the beautiful photography. It;s a smallish coffee tale book, but something anyone could leave out in a guest room to engage art lovers of all ages.

Foto meravigliose, libro poetico.
