This book is beautifully embossed on the cover with gardening doodles. I really like the feel of it in my hands, the quality of the paper, and the thoughtful layout. I really wanted to see what the inside looked like because I feel like a journal is quite the personal commitment. So here are my photos to hopefully help out those of you wondering what the big deal is about this notebook.
It is divided into three sections. The first section has a small reference area about some botanical basics and zoning maps (I find the botanical illustrations pretty and informative). The second section is the main part with tabs laid out with very specific page templates for:
- Plants
- Pots, Tools, etc.
- Design
- Visits
- Garden Log
I have photos of almost every page type in this book so take a look at what they entail.
The last part of the book includes blank pages with different templates which feels a little rigid but may inspire you to further organize your gardening plans and exploits:
- blank pages with grid hashmarks on the edges to easily allow you to draw a grid on the pages if you so wish
- lined
- divided (into five equal sections down the page)
- almost blank with corner indicators to inspire you to draw or add photos
- blank (except for the page numbers which are on every single page)
At the very end there is also an Index which should come in handy so long as you realize that it is there and you keep it up to date. It has room for you to write in content for each page so you can actually find something you might be looking for. So long as I can stay on top of that, it will be great for finding items months and years down the line.
Also nicely included is an elastic band to close the book, three ribbons for placeholders, a double pocket at the end, and three sheets of stickers to aid in your organizing.
As a beginner, this seems to be overkill but I am up for the challenge. It is inspiring and beautiful. It feels sturdy and just the right size in my hand. I'll update after a season of gardening and see just how much of the book was actually useful.
