Green River laid the groundwork for the Seattle "Grunge" movement. They were the band to first mix punk sensibilities with hard rock riffage. Feature members of notable "Grunge" acts Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, ect...Green River exploded on the Seattle scene with their first album Come On Down. This record shows the classic riffs and punk energy that would only get fine tuned in the next few records, and perfected by future groups. This record is raw and influential, and gets a tremendous remastering, repackaging treatment in this release. It's a must own for fans of the band, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, and grunge music in general.
Sinmply put, i'm an individual of few words. The album...AMAZING! If you wanted to literally listen to the beginnings of grunge music's evolution into the amazing genre it became...START WITH THIS CD!
I really like this album. Its short but to the point. It shows that they can really make good music. Come on Down and Swallow My Pride are the best one the album. Corner of My Eye and Tunnel of Love are also awesome. Anyway, definetly pick this up it'll let you know where grunge started and how it first sounded.
This albums ok. Sounds alot like Mudhoney. While people consider this the first grunge album it's more punk than grunge in my opinion. If your a cd collector like me this album is a rarity so I would say buy it especially if you like heavy punk rock
Green River's COME ON DOWN is one of those albums that you own to satisfy curiosity more than to listen to. There are at least two grunge classics on this album ("Come On Down" and "Swallow My Pride"), and some filler stuff too. Mostly you wouldn't imagine these guys going on to form Pearl Jam, but it is very believable that Mark Arm and Steve Turner stepped up to Mudhoney from here. If you like Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, just be warned that this sounds NOTHING like what they've gone on to do since. If you like Mudhoney, this is sort of like the Young Mudhoneys.
