Purchased this program for my 8 year old daughter a few weeks ago. Tried to load it on our laptop PC running Windows 7 with a 64 bit operating system but it didn't work. Then I attempted to load it onto our desktop PC running Windows 7 with a 32 bit operating system and after some fiddling around, it works great! My daughter played it today for several hours. Seems to be a good way to reinforce skills she learned in school. To determine if your PC running Windows 7 has a 32bit or 64bit Operating system, click the Microsoft Windows logo on the bottom left corner of your screen. Then click the flowing in order: Control Panel - System & Security - System. The screen should display a list. Under the System Heading check to see what System Type is listed. If 32 bit is listed this program should work. If 64 bit is listed it won't. Also running the setup program that pops up automatically when you load the CD did not work for me (it just brought up the registration page which you can skip). To get the actual software to load, click the Microsoft Windows logo on the bottom left corner of your screen. Then click the flowing in order: Computer- DVD Drive (pirate bird picture)- Install- _Setup. I would probably go through this process again if I had to because I think the programs benefits are worth it. It would be nice if they offered a 64 bit version as well...
I got this for the kids that I babysit that have trouble with both reading and math because I remember doing these as a child. I got my order on time and upon opening the cd I was thrusted into the world of reader rabbit and all the fun that comes along with learning. The kids at first were not in any way happy about me getting this but after time it came to help them out greatly. If I had a complaint it would be only that I wish the reader rabbit games they come out with today could be of the same great quality of this game. Because it is an older game you do need an older computer to run the disk. My newer computer that I bought awhile back would not run the disk because it had different requirements than what was called for, for the game to play properly.
"Booh!! You Fail!!!! Will not work for Windows 7 64 bit..after several frustrating hours trying unsuccessfully to install this, I took it to our extremely deft I.T. guy at work for installation on my PC. He couldn't even get it to work with their Reader Rabbit Windows 7 patch/fix link.....He did get it to work on his older laptop (34 bit) after much effort.. But I, myself, am out of luck unless I decide to buy a second laptop, an older used laptop, to be used for this software (that's not going to happen).. Our I.T. guy told me that his kids had the reader rabbit software years ago and that the software used to be really great until the company got bought out by another company. Big disappointment for my 8 year old girl trying to improve her math skills. There's nothing like giving a little girl a fun CD then seeing the look of disappointment on her face when we tell her "sorry" she can't use it because it won't work on our Windows 7!!!!!!!!! She was really looking foward to playing the games... I'm S.O.L. and peeved!!!! What a bunch of creeps having the nerve to sell this for Windows 7. Ask for a refund guarantee before you purchase this.. If one will not be given, stay away Windows 7 users. And if you do decide to risk buying one... do yourself a favor...don't tell your kids about it and get their hopes up until AFTER you've successfully installed it on your system.
I bought the game for my sister. I was watching her play and the game itself seems dull compare to jumpstart series, and the pace was waay to fast for a six year old to follow. It's good to introduce the child to new types of math so they can acquaint with it sooner, but this was just straight out hard for a six year old. The fraction part was introduced too early in the level of the game and the game itself didn't show her how to do it the problem even once nor provided any visual cues. How is a child suppose to play and learn when all they do is get frustrated?
Use this software for my students during tutoring sessions. Also great at home for my grand children during their early learning stages. Never to early to learn...
Reader Rabbit appeared on the market in the 90's. This version of the product continues the long line of successful motivation programs. My 7yr. old grandson pleaded with us to get a copy for home use because the one he used at school kept resetting and he had to start over again gathering his "boat parts" to free Reader Rabbit from the PiRats!!! fantastic... motivational and very age appropriate!!! Solid math content!!!
My six year old thinks this is great fun and is learning second grade math...great way to spend her time! As she learns more, she can increase the level of difficulty...my kids love this series.
