I set up an old Win98 machine and had a spare IDE SSD so I needed and adapter. The adapter itself worked fine but no matter where I put it on the ribbon or how I had the drives set, slave drives would not be seen. Unplug it and the slave is seen no problem. This was the case in 2 different machines with 2 different drives. And it isn't rocket science, tried the SSD on CS and master and neither would let the slave drive be seen. But for a single drive, it works great

I was a little worried, because it had an extra pin and could not connect to the IDE cable (you know the one pin that's supposed to be missing so you can tell which way around to connect it?)
anyway, i bent that pin out of the way and it worked fine. i don't know how much quality control you can expect on something that costs a penny, so i can't knock them too hard for it.

I bought a drive enclosure but the 3.5 IDE cable was not compatible with my Dell laptop hard drive. With the Startech adapter I can now plug in either a desktop or laptop hard drive into my desktop computer's USB port and access information. I was afraid I had lost precious data from my failed laptop but with the 2.5 adapter, I was able to recover all my saved files. This setup give me the best of all possibilities as I am able to access either drive with one housing for a very reasonable price. Easy to use, just plug in or remove from 3.5 cable as needed.

Really handy little adapter; does what it says it does. Allowed me to fit a 2.5in IDE drive into an old PC that was wired for a 3.5in IDE drive (the pins are closer together on a 2.5in drive and so the 3.5in IDE cables wouldn't fit). This little adapter fits onto the 2.5in drive allowing a standard 3.5in IDE hard drive cable to be used to hook it up to the motherboard. The white Molex power adapter connects to a spare power cable inside the PC. Fitted in seconds. No complaints, works perfectly.
