Adopted by a prominent family in Shanghai in 1941, little Sung Neng Yee (Nora Lam) is treated like a princess. . . until the bombs drop, and the Japanese seize her house. After the defeat of the Japanese, she joins the Communists, believing they are the liberators of China. All goes well until she falls in love with Iam Cheng Shen from Hong Kong. Communist officials decide to break her of any bourgeois tendencies. During the next few years, in which she marries and has three children, she is subjected to excruciating persecution. She calls out to God for salvation. Miracles follow. She bargains for her husband and daughter’s release to Hong Kong and is sent to hard! labor, where she starts agitating for her own release. An intimate love story, sage of courage, and acclaimed inspirational gem.

I just finished watching this story for the second time. Although the movie doesn't cover any details of Nora's life after escaping the bamboo curtain, it is still beyond what words can express. Her complete written story can bring readers to their knees before God. Nora lived through things that could only be endured by the hand and grace of God. She was made strong in weakness, and through many, many hardships, persecution and heartbreak went on to be one of the greatest witnesses to the reality of Jesus and His power and glory. She led many to Christ when circumstances looked impossible. A strong thought in these times: everyone should become aware of the reality of communism because when they do, they will stand against it ever happening in our beloved America. Pray for the Chinese and Asian people, pray for our country and the world. We won't all be Nora Lams, but we all can pray!

The person who gave a 1 star review fell into a human error trap! While Nora was a woman of great faith her experience as depicted in the film gives glory to God and npt to her! God is the author of faith and He keeps his promises and the film was a wonderful tribute to that faithfulness of God! God does take a child up on his or her confession of faith! And it is He that plants it in the first place! I have the opinion Nora would fully agree with me!
