    This purchase was the best ~$400 I ever spent. I've had it less than a week and I'm not quite sure how I got along without it before.

    I went from a Waring professional blender to the Vitamix 4500 when the glass container on my Waring blender shattered. The Vitamix containers are polycarbonate (hopefully shatterproof in my case) and BPA free!

    I purchased the 4500 model over the 5000 series because I was not interested in a variable speed dial. The two machines are identical other than the dial, and as far as I can tell, variable speed blending is not necessary and is rarely (if ever) used. I start the machine on low and flip the switch to high, that's it... instant savings of ~$100.

    I have used this 2-3 times a day since I've gotten it. I've made smoothies, fruit slushies, water ice, fruit topping, a cashew nut cheesecake, and marinara sauce. In all cases, the Vitamix has performed beautifully, not to mention it has out-performed my Waring blender by leaps and bounds. I haven't gotten a chance to make soup yet, but as soon as this heatwave ends, I'l give it a try!

    The addition of the "tamper tool" is a nice touch. It's really just a big piece of plastic that fits through the hole in the top of the cover, but it's set up so no matter how you move it around to get the food towards the blades, it will never come in contact with the blades itself. Ingenious! I have a few nicked wooden spoons to prove that such a device is actually necessary once in a while.

    The ease of cleanup is what really sells me on this blender, though it seems a shame to call it just a blender. Fill with 5 cups hot water, add a dash of soap, start it on low and run it on high for 30 seconds. Instant dishwasher! I've cleaned the outside of the carafe too when needed. It's so nice not to have to disassemble everything (it doesn't disassemble at all, in fact) and hand wash.

    I don't regret this purchase one bit, and I was very afraid that I might since it wasn't cheap... but it was worth every penny, and then some. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

    I bought it to make soup and go on a diet. I made 4 soups, Broccoli/cheddar. plain broccoli with half and half, Tomate and vegan mushroom. It made the soups, but for some unknown reason I just couldn't enjoy the soups. The recipes maybe or whatever. Its great for green juices blended with fruits, watermelon juice with rind, smoothies etc. So I will keep tinkering till I find out how to make the soups, maybe its just me but even store bought soups taste better. so 4 stars instead of 5. And yes the noise level was very bearable with no need to put mouse pad below. Easy clean up, instant cleanup actually.

    While this model does a nice job for what it is, I highly recommend that you spend the extra $100 to get the Professional Series 500. YOU ARE GOING TO WANT IT! I had this machine for about three weeks and it just does not give you the control that the professional series does. You are pretty limited with only the high/low settings, so it is impossible not to pulverize your food. If you only want to make smoothies, this machine is incredible. But, if you are not in the smoothie business and you want a great tool that can do a whole lot more (and you have the extra $100) get the professional 500. Trust me on this one!

    I love this machine!!!! I've had it for more than 6 months now and its as efficient as when I first bought it. It blends pretty much everything! I use it for my protein shakes and fresh fruit juices that I like to make. The juices are heaven, I can mix carrots, beets, mangos, and spinach all at once (with 1 cup of water at least) and this awesome machine does it to perfection. I do not like the protein shake when I put raw oatmeal(uncooked) because the motor is so strong that it shoots it up and it makes a bit of a mess (even with low speed)---if you know a better way PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!. The container is easy to clean. I just do not like the fact that it is so tall, I do not have the exact measurements but its pretty tall. The lid is pretty bulky and sometimes its weird to put on, I don't know I might be a bit picky but for the price your paying I would think they'd make a better design. Overall the machine is great, it never fails me, always there when I need it and with awesome quality each and every time!!!! The price is a bit hefty but worth the time saving and things that you can make.

    Few products I can say made enough of a difference that actually changed my life but this one did. For most of my life I hated veggies but as I got older and my health and metabolism stopped being as effective in keeping me healthy and trim I knew I needed to make a change. I finally decided that I needed to eat more veggies, and I mean a lot or more veggies. So I heard about blending veggies and after using a regular old blender I switched to the vitamix. The vitamix will detroy just about any veggie you put into it and make, with water/juice, a nice drink. Daily I easily have 7-10 different roots, veggies, and fruits because of its ability to mix things so well. Highly recommend to anyone wishing to become healthier by drinking veggies.

    I love my Vitamix! It makes great smoothies that are healthy. The receipes for vegetable shakes and fruit shakes are really good however I tried to make the soup receipes and they were aweful! It tasted like metal because when the Vitamix gets to a certain speed it must give off a metal taste to the food. I do not recommend making any of the soup receipes. The rest of the receipes for veggie and fruit drinks are very delicious.
