Editorial Reviews
Daughters of orchestra leader Mark McIntyre, Patience & Prudence were all of 14 and 11 years old when they hit the Top Five in 1956 with 'Tonight You Belong to Me', and they went on to score several more hits for Liberty before leaving the music industry for good at the end of the decade. However, despite having a recording legacy consisting of little more than a few singles, 50s pop and rock fans have been "patiently" awaiting reissue of their work; thats probably because their harmonies were among the most bewitching of the era, catnip for both lounge lizards in search of exotica and rockabillies with a yen for the lighter side. Weve gathered up their ENTIRE Liberty recordings, thrown in their four sides for Chattahoochee and procured some photos from Patience McIntryres private collection for the definitive retrospective.

But, with acts like Bianca Ryan from "America's Got Talent" blowing people away with her awesome voice, it's a shock to remember P&P's gentle, breezy songs and their whispery voices..ahhh.
I was never a fan, but, like a few other reveiwers, I still get a smile on my face, too, when I hear them today.
This album has the two songs I remember, "Gonna Get Along Without Ya", and "Tonight You Belong To Me" (heard on a eBay TV ad recently). The rest are very sweet songs in the same vein, and yes, I too was quite drawn to "We Can't Sing Rhythm and Blues" and "Dreamers Bay". Very nice. They then seemed to try to appeal to the Rock & Roll sensibilities of the era by re-doing one of their hits, but the song just lost its charm somehow.
I would have despised them in the '60's and probably did. But now..well, everything old is new again, isn't it?
Would 'tweens dig this album? I have a hunch they might, after the snickering dies down. Hanna Montana they ain't, but the music is still listenable.
Patience and Prudence were the very embodiment of 50's innocence and that innocence has been long stripped away by Britney Spears and others. But now, it's been carefully preserved for us on this CD.

The Chattahoochie recordings were trying to reinvent the wheel. The only thing that made Patience and Prudence interesting was their sound, which the Chattahoochie recordings sometimes drowned out by adult backup singers and rock music. The lyrics to one of the Liberty releases said it best:
We are up a tree and can't ignore it
You see, we haven't got the voices for it
It's mighty sad sad news
We can't sing rythym and blues
Even so, those recordings weren't too bad.
The only really lame recordings on the CD were "Tom Thumb's Tune" and "A Smile and a Ribbon." Don't listen to those. They're horrid. You've been warned.
A Smile and A Ribbon was featured in a movie: "Ghost World" {I believe was the name?} as an old 45 playing on a record player with all the scratches, etc.
One of there biggest songs might well be: "Tonight You Belong To Me" another song with some very grown up themes? Most of there songs were done on the Liberty label, with a two records done later on Chattahoochie.
If you have never heard Of Patience & Prudence or had a chance to listen to there sweet voices in a tune - then it is worthwhile at least listening to a few of their songs and maybe you will get hooked as I did?

I love it !!! It was great that somebody with a good taste released at last this jewel of the 50's

It sets the tone of the album and if "Smile" appeals to you then the rest of the songs should do also.
It would be a very hard heart that did not melt just a little when listening to the sweet innocence bursting through almost every tune!
What might also be a surprise is the quality of the arrangements (though considering their father's career maybe not),
which include some really interesting performances by the backing musicians/orchestra.
Also nice to hear the duets with Mike Clifford (of "Close to Cathy" fame).
Sadly, unlike Mike Clifford, it seems that Patience and Prudence are no longer performing.
Still, close your eyes and be transported back to a time when music like this could be produced without guile or pretension.
I was not disappointed. Terrific CD.
しかし、エレクトリックな「Tonight You Belong To me」はちょっとツラかったかなぁ。あくまでも可愛さを「様式の美学」として貫いてほしかった。…でも、人間成長するもんね、無理か。…でも、CD化には大拍手!!
