Not Great, but Pretty Good.

Another great reminder of the greatness of the great collaborations between the great Gene Wilder and great Mel Great Brooks. (You'll comment that Brooks didn't come up with this, and that's exactly my point.)

Sadly, non-sequitur ending sequence gives the feeling that Bergman wrote himself into a corner and then relied on some silly self-satire to fix everything.

Some might complain about all the racism, but that's exactly the point. For a movie that came out in the mid-70s, it offered a good poke in the eye of the absurdist beliefs that racism was ever useful. And you know... that eye needs to be poked some more.

One of the best comedies of all time which one doesn't get tired of watching over and over as it's timeless. Wish there were more "The Making Of" but comes with little extra material. Two thumbs way up in spite of the lack of special features and a great addition to anyone's video library.

Teach your kids about American history!

This movie taught me a lot about American history...only kidding. It's a classic film and everyone should watch it at least once. This is one of my favorite movies and I've laughed each time I've seen it.

If you're a politically correct person, this film would trigger you. For fun, watch this with a politically correct friend of yours. It makes the movie that much more hilarious.

One of the Greatest Comedies of all time (if you like silly)

Some movies do not age gracefully. But this movie is as funny now as it was 40(?) years ago. Ranks right up there with "Airplane" as one of the funniest movies of my lifetime. Just be ready to watch a totally politically-incorrect flick with not much plot but gag after gag. The team of Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn and Harvey Korman was unbeatable. And add in just a hint of Alex Karras and the movie is genius.

Excellent movie as always. I wasn't offended at all. Context and intent dictates meaning and they always reveal what is truly meant despite efforts in trying to hide them. Classic entertainment genius.

Classic wild and crazy Mel Brooks movie for baby-boomer and original SNL cast generation

R rated classic smash comedy not for this "political correct" generation. Great cast, great acting, great writing. Too bad it could never be made today. People are too racist and biased now to understand good-natured ridicule of bigots. Red-necks, Nazis, KKK, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, effeminate males, white-trash, "n-gg-rs", corrupt politicians, capitol-punishment, and other taboo topics are jocked about... so be advised ahead of time if you like to be easily offended and have lost your ability to laugh at yourself.

Still funny after all these years (even though it is very non P.C.)

Yes, this movie is wrong on so many levels. But if it is offensive to some, at least it tries to be offensive to everybody. I haven't seen it in years and was surprised how well holds up. It is still funny as he11. I don't know if it would work if they released it today. People might find it too politically incorrect, or perhaps it wouldn't even register on the PC meter now that we have hundreds of uncensored cable channels and the internet. Mel Brooks did many great films. This may be his best, though IMO, it would be a photo finish between Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.

A true classic that stands the test of time

You literally couldn't make this movie today in our current cultural climate although (as hilariously crude and crass as they may have been addressed) EVERY social/racial/economic ill satirized is going on, stronger than ever TODAY.
The film: forever funny.
The fact that it's as socially relevant than ever 30 YEARS later: truly sad.
