Will work with GERERIC rotary tool with small modifications

Will work with GERERIC rotary tool with small modifications
I've got a Craftsman rotary tool that Ive had for 25 years and works just fine. In order to get this rotary 'drill press' to work with it (or any other rotary tool for that matter) you've got to remove 'captured' nut that the Dremel tool would screw/ lock into. I first removed the plastic assembly from the arm by undoing 2 nuts. One can be done with wrench the other needs 1/2" socket. if you look at the picture you can see part #1 is the main assembly (which is attached with the two nuts). Part #2 is a shroud that 'captures' part #3 the nut and holds it in place but allows it to rotate/be tightened. There are 4 tabs (white arrows) and slots that are plastic welded together. I drilled and chiseled them out from the inside. The assembly is still rigid enough without the shroud. KEEP THE PLASTIC NUT ! just in case you decide to use a Dremel brand roatry tool with it. Otherwise just use the 'nut' that came with your rotary tool keeping the same orientation as the original. Once you have the tool in hand it will make more sense. Enjoy your new rotary tool 'drill press'.

I purchased this stand as I have limited room to work in so even a medium sized stand will not fit in my work area. Also this unit is therefore easy to move around and useful in that manner. It will fit my small hole needs quite well and will allow some amount of accuracy above and beyond a hand held drill motor.

Very useful and stable device for effectively using the Dremel tools, and at an excellent price. I drill and cut gemstones (employing diamond Dremel tools) and require the precise angular and pressure control that this "drill press" provides.

The good:
- Stays compact
- Cost is reasonable for what you get.
- It is convenient for a quick task.
- Works well overall.

The bad
- Can't replace a drill press. Precision is disappointing. Don't expect any. While the concept is great, there is a lot of flex in the system that one can hardly expect the Dremel to be centered or truly vertical. The Dremel is attached to a piece of plastic that does flex quite a bit. So any pressure will make the Dremel tilt some. There is also a lot of play in the sliding mechanism. The Dremel tool itself seems relatively precise. It is too bad this stand attachment looses all the benefit of Dremel's precision.
- Assembly not intuitive and uses cheap tightening methods. I never care to tighten by a bolt squeezing a tub. It is not good for long term use. It is not good to keep slide motion smooth. It would have been worth an extra dollars or two for such improvement.
- Doesn't allow for the right angle rotary attachment to be mounted with it. It would have allowed to use the grinding disk as cutting tool on tubing. Shame it's not compatible.

I don't have the space for a large drill press and typically I only need one for small jobs. I ran across this one for drilling 1/8" holes in acrylic sheets and it worked like a champ. It feels robust enough to mimic a larger press, but with a Dremel tool in the saddle it doesn't overpower when finesse is needed... All in all a great addition to a 'small projects' workshop.

Works great for holding my Dremel tool while cutting/drilling. I was also hoping it would work with the flexible shaft on it (it doesn't)-although you can hang it (my mistake for not researching it better). However, since I'm using this off the tailgate of my truck, and it's not mounted, doing so tips it over. Still happy with purchase as it works great for the uses it was intended.

I built 5 frames for our windows to attach Christmas lights. Takes me 2 minutes to put light in window. Any way I use 9mm plastic cable anchors. I removed the nails and drilled the holes a little larger for #4 3/4" length pan head screws in case I ever had to replace a strand of lights. I built a jig to hold the anchirs to drill the holes larger. First the Dremel Brand keyless chuck I had just bought from Home Depot was not true. The drill bit did a slight elliptical action. So removed that put the collet in. Each window used 110 anchors. Half way through drill press would not retract on own and from the beginning it wobbled slightly front to back. I needed this to complete my projects.
Took it apart. 1st the 2 round plates had a flaw. The special bolt protruded past the surface, was not flush. Designed a U SHAPE spacer solved that problem. The plastic pin that held the outer part of the coil spring broke. Replaced it with a bolt through the blue housing and a nut that the spring sits on perfectly. Fixed 2 problems. The 3rd has always been the Dremel rocks just enough left and right. The Dremel is screwed in securely. The problem is the tool is anchored at the base. There should have been some type of mid body support like the router assembly has. 4th an final problem. The depth guage always leaned away from the press. But the metal rod would not stay in place had to make w dimples for the set screw to hold it.
This was the first time EVER that a Dremel tool failed me. I bought a new Dremel Rotary tool just for the drill press. I have 2 Dremel Rotary tools that are over 10 yeard old and still working great. This is the first tool from Dremel I am not happy about.
