- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2024If you have Prime why do you have to pay additional to see these movies. Yes, Prime has a billion free movies but 90% of them you never heard of or you wouldn't want to watch even if you did know what movies they were.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2014A great movie with an irony title, should have been called " Abnormal Marriage Life." Our hero, a cop should have dropped his insane and manipulative wife like a hot potato, huh, more like a red hot coal. He should have known better. Self mutilation is a clear and present sign of insanity! She threatened to commit a suicide every time he scolded her, disagreed with her or even had a little normal marriage spat. Good grief! So their life went spiralling down to hell. Looked to me like she suffered from severe bipolar disorder and should have been committed to a mental health institution with really heavy sedation.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2015This is an excellent movie very well acted by both stars, especially Ashley Judd. Unfortunately, it is based on a true story of a complex relationship between a young couple involving love, addiction, crime and despair leading to their destruction. It is so sad they couldn't have channeled their intellects for good, A sad love story of an upright and decent guy who fell madly in love with a complex.but intelligent beautiful woman and ended up being destroyed. Sometimes love kills and this is the perfect example of that
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2014This movie is over the top good and quite underappreciated. If you liked "Sid and Nancy" you will like this movie. It is similar without the drug use. Ashley Judd and Luke Perry give great headlining performances. It is comedic, dramatic, and romantic. While the ending is almost predicatable, how it gets to the ending and the performances leading up to it are very much worth watching.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2018A bit of Chicago history. Made local news, at the time. Husband had hosed down a Palatine Police car with a machine gun, and escaped for a while. All came to a bad end. Serious film for Ashley.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2019If you're a fan of the movie critic Roger Ebert, you may remember his book, _I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie_ .It's riotously funny, reading his one star reviews of movies that were so bad, they never even should have been conceived, let alone filmed.
Inexplicably, he gave this one 3 1/2 stars when it was released in 1996. Who knows what he was thinking? Maybe he was in an unusually generous mood. Maybe was somehow pressured to write a favorable review.
Well, nobody is pressuring me, and I'm in an objective mood. I hated, hated, hated this movie, from the insipid piano music in the opening credits to the absurd ending.
My hate list:
1. The film's two protagonists are overwhelmingly unlikable. Bad protagonists can work in some films, but not in this one. When the so-called "tragic" ending happened, I yawned.
2. The mood swings of the characters are ridiculous. They flip-flop from being relatively normal people in one scene to enraged maniacs in the next, and then back to normal in the next scene. In a better movie, this could have been pulled off, but not here. Fifteen minutes into this movie, you're tired of them.
The girl needs go be institutionalized and pumped full of Thorazine, and the cop should know better than to get get involved with her. No cop could possibly be this naive, unless he's crazy himself. Maybe he is crazy, but we're given no indication why.
3. Ashley Judd's performance is the most incredible case of overacting I've ever seen in my life. It's embarrassing to watch. Her breasts are also on display in every other scene, for no other reason than to sell tickets.
4. Implausibilities are so abundant, the cumulative effect is numbing: Illinois cops take 19 minutes to show up after a bank robbery call. The cop robs nine banks in the Chicago area before the FBI gets onto him. He's been fired from the police force, and he uses the cash to buy a suburban home, and nobody questions it....? He has always wanted to own a book store, and he uses the cash to open one. He's apparently an "intellectual." Baloney. In one scene, he shows a customer a copy of Jim Thompson's _The Killer Inside Me_. The director is showing us how "hip" he is. He's not.
The only good thing in the movie is the dog, who appears briefly in four or five scenes. He's really cute. That's why I gave it one star.
Don't waste your time. Even the film company knew this was a loser, so they never released it in theaters. It went on TV as an HBO movie. A very bad one.
