- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2015I probably couldn't say anything that hasn't already been said about Dylan in this short recommendation. All i can do is type with sincerity. The Times They Are A Changin' is one of the last albums from Dylan's discography I am adding to my collection. I suppose, if I am to be honest, I had put purchasing this album off for so long most likely because I thought it was already too familiar. I was wrong. There is a lot to discover and revisit in this grand statement that speaks to the current times just as much as it did when it was first released I imagine. I see primarily two types of modern Dylan fans; the one's who listen mostly to his post electric output and consider his early folk work culturally significant but musically black and white and the die-hard fans that consider Dylan the Absolute in music. Perhaps it is a transformation one undergoes while learning Dylan, to embrace the folk years after the wild lust for Blonde on Blonde has been satiated. The Times They Are a Changin' speaks as powerfully to me as any of Dylan's albums. It is like a message in a bottle that has been floating to me through the years and although it was written long ago I feel like It could have been from the future written about the present. It is completely applicable to our world today, Dylan's lyrics capture my attention with each listen, even when its playing in the background or while I drive, it finds me, penetrating my thoughts with its meaty ink. In each generation since he began somebody always has to ask; "who is the Dylan of my generation?" The answer is simple. There is only one Bob Dylan and he is the "Dylan" of any generation. His voice speaks through the ages to all the youth, of any time, if they are hip enough to listen. He has one of those iconic careers in which eras or periods are distinguished in chunks of discography that incorporate varying styles, tones, ideas and flavor that establish itself from the former and latter. To find The Times They Are a Changin' after collecting so many of Dylan's albums is a very special gift, as if I had been saving the best for last unbeknownst to myself.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2018This is one of the classic albums of all time (and Dylan has so many of them.
Ok, so this is pre-electric, it is still as sharp as a razor. Lyrically this is probably one of his very best albums ever. The content is dark, but if that is not scary to you then I see no reason you wouldn't love it.
This album has aged very well due to it's simplicity and that topically the issues touched on are still relevant.
Times are a changin' is a classic that everyone knows ... or should.
hollis brown is a tale of tragedy that still has echoes today.
with god on our side is a sharp attack at the self righteous making a mockery of their self righteousness.
one too many mornings is another classic with a reflective lyric that is ageless
north country blues is another tragic tale
only a pawn in their game is an astonishing and insightful commentary on social manipulation and racism and many other topics.
boots of spanish leather is one of the most beautiful tales of lost love ever written
when the ship comes in is a great song that is somewhat lighter in mood than the rest of the album
lonesome death of hattie carroll is one of the greatest ever songs about corruption/inbalance in our system of (in)justice
and restless farewell is exactly that.
This album may be heavy going for some, but essentially this is lyrically one of the most important Dylan albums ever made.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2009This won't really be a helpful review, but,to be honest,I really don't care since I hate writing reviews.I'm bored and have too much time on my hands so I'm just doing this to kill time. The only reason that I bought this CD was because it was recommended to me by Amazon and I felt that I needed it to add to my collection(I am attempting to acquire as many of the greatest albums of all-time that I can afford and this one,as well as many other Dylan albums, made the list).I also got a great deal on it.Would I recommend this to someone who doesn't even like Dylan? No,because it won't change their opinion of him.The trademark raspy voice is there as well as the sometimes annoying harmonica playing. What I feel makes this album essential is not necessarily the singing or playing, but the words themselves. It's refreshing to know that at one time in history people really did care enough about their country's situation and the times they were living in to write such topical songs as this. The name of the album(as well as the title track)boasts the catchphrase,"the times they are a-changin'",which has been used frequently since the release of this album and may still even be used today(by babyboomers who grew up in the '60s,no doubt). This is definitely of an era when young people were more connected to what was going on around them,a situation that, sadly,no longer exists today. There's far too much ignorance and indifference in this modern Internet-fuelled age and young people nowadays are more concerned with their own personal interests rather than the situation their country's in or helping their fellow man.

I bought this DVD as a Christmas gift for a relative. I have the old vinyl record but I'm very tempted to order another copy of this DVD for myself. How easy DVDs are to handle!!! rather than a big old vinyl record. Bob Dylan should never be forgotten as a song-writer and performer!!!

フリーウィーリンに継ぐフォークの傑作。とにかく詩が素晴らしい。やっぱり初期のこの頃のディランが一番好きだ。
