SO MANY RECENT MOVIES HAVE BEEN IN EUROPE OR ASIA. IT HAS A VERY EXCITING PLOT WHEN THERE IS A FOREIGN GROUP PLANNING TO
EXPLODE A NUCLEAR WARHEAD IN LA. WORKING WITH AN EX FRIEND AND SOMEONE, FEMALE, HE TRAINED, TOGETHER THEY GO AFTER
THE CELL. THIS HAS A GREAT DEAL OF ACTION AND MANY MORE GUNS THAN USUAL WITH RESPECT TO HAND TO HAND COMBAT. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE MORE MARSHAL ARTS BUT THEY ARE NOT WHOLLY ABSENT. MY GREAT IDEA OF A MATCH WOULD BE STEVEN
AGAINST SCOTT ADKINS, WHO DOES ESSENTIALLY TAEKWANDO AND COULD HAVE A TENTH DEGREE RED BELT IF HE SO DESIRED. ALL IN
ALL THIS WAS A FINE FILM. WHEN THE DENOUEMENT ARRIVED, I.E. THE UNRAVELING, THERE WAS A BREATHTAKING CONCLUSION. ENJOY.
He must personally save the world and his partner/ student from the bad guys that are dealing in Nukes.
If this sounds derrogatory towards the movie it is not! I am a huge Seagal fan and own every movie he has released, I think the production and storyline of Black Dawn is more the caliber of his earlier movies and I quite enjoyed it. I am glad to see he is putting out a better product! But it would not matter because like all TRUE Seagal fans if he is in the movie, I will buy it no matter how bad. I would just like to see his movies return to the big screen where he belongs. If you are a fan buy this you will love it. If you are not a fan buy it anyway as it is a good movie and the plot/ story is good enough that the common action hero movie buffs will like it.
Also can not understand why Amazon would list it as 'recently added'. It has clearly been recycled through their video offerings numerous times.

...Anyhoo, The Lord is Jonathon Cold - a no nonsense former-CIA agent who now works freelance offering his services to the highest bidder (you may remember him from his previous movie 'The Foreigner' if you could stay awake, that is). This time, he's hired by arms dealer Donovan (Julian Stone) to break his brother out of prison - who thank Cold by asking him to help sell parts for a small nuclear bomb to Nicholi, the leader of a rogue Chechen group. These dastardly terrorists are planning to blow up LA, but little do they know that our man Cold is deep, deep undercover and ready to pounce! Meanwhile, John's former protegé, Amanda (Tamara Davies) is also is spying on the Donovan's and gets caught up in their gun-blasting crossfire, with Cold taking her along for the ride... As the clock continues to tick, the duo attempt to stop the dastardly Nicholi from blowing up LA, but will they catch this villain in time? Will Tamara Davies get a new agent? Does The Lord have a wardrobe full of six foot tall leather jackets in his wardrobe? Inquiring minds needed to know...
Action cinematographer Alexander Gruszynski ('Stone Cold', 'Maximum Risk' and 'The Craft') turns his hand to low budget wonders with this Seagal sequel, which I assume was to be the start of a franchise but as The Lord can only play one person - they obviously felt there was no point. To be fair to him, his Lordness does seem to be making an effort in this one and the screenplay by Martin Wheeler ('7 Seconds') is a fast paced number and combined with Gruszynski's sharp direction - everything zips along without too much boredom setting in. Also, Seagal is favourably supported by both Timothy Carhart and the excellent Tamara Davies, who if there were any justice would have been given top billing as she's the only one the audience can relate to and frankly a better actor than our man Steve (shhhhhh, don't tell anyone).
Sony's UK DVD release sports a fine transfer with suitably good audio, but little to no extra features. All in all, this is a long way from The Lord's previous output and fans of 'Out for Justice' or 'Marked for Death' may find themselves scratching their head as what the hell just happened, but as a marginally late in the game, no budget actioner, its a little higher on the crapola barometer than say 'Attack Force' or 'Flight of Fury'. Recommended for a one-shot watch, especially for the relatively cheap price Amazon are asking for it - sure, it ain't gonna rock your world or make you wanna dye your hair black and go around talking in a quiet, whispery southern drawl - but its fine for an hangover.
