The thermostat that I received was stamped 85*C. The real OEM thermostat is supposed to be 90*C. Mine came in a white box -- big red flag to me -- as it should have come in traditional AC Delco box. The thermostat is built differently than the one in the picture and it is different than than the customer images. So, either I got a customer return where the customer slipped a non oem thermostat into the box or what is being sold are non oem parts listed as AC Delco OEM parts. I'm opting for the latter due to the white box which is a dead giveaway, IMO.

Does not perform as expected

The temperature now constantly fluctuates between 183 and 189 (using a scan tool). I can also watch it fluctuating on the dash while i drive or idle. The reason i bought the OEM Delco stat was so that it would work perfectly. It should open at 197 and not fluctuate. The system is completely bled of air too, btw.

I put this in my 99 tahoe, 5.7L because the old thermostat would stick closed from a cold start. The coolant would get to boiling point before it opened, after that it would stay rock steady at 189.

I would not buy this again or recommend it.

Wrong part in the box

This thermostat does not work as expected. This thermostat is cooling at 165. I don’t think my vehicle is going into closed loop now. I looked up this AC Delco part # and it should have need 198 so this seller must be swapping these out the t-stay was not the same design my old one had a hole in the center looking at the bottom this one did not. I found this out too late because I didn’t do the repair right away and the return window has closed.

No problems, fit perfectly and performs great! If I can't get Genuine GM parts then AC Delco/Delphi are the only replacement parts I will use, and they last much longer than the rest. I've used cheaper parts, there is a place for them, especially when you're in a situation, but they generally will never last as long as Genuine GM/AC Delco/Delphi parts. They are indisputably high quality parts and worth every penny, I wouldn't recommend anything else for a GM automobile. This thermostat has already had quite a few cycles and temperature stays around 208°F consistently and fluctuations in temperature a minimal but nothing out of the ordinary.

Nearly Direct fit for my 2003 GMC Sonoma, needs a different gasket to fit

I've had some coolant system issues in my 2003 GMC Sonoma that I've been slowly working through. Recently my temperature sensor burned out, so I bought this thermostat as a precautionary measure. I have the 4.3L V6 in my Sonoma and this fit directly in with a different gasket. Like others have mentioned the stock gasket is a bit small. As my old gasket was still serviceable I just swapped it over to this thermostat, dropped it in place and fit perfectly. Engine runs at a solid 200*F and barely fluctuates a degree through various workloads as I test drove it after install last night. Since it was just installed I can't say anything about longevity or durability, but then again it is an ACDelco part and should last another 100k miles!

I went through 2x returns with these. Both, the first one and the replacement seemed to have had some sticky spot. They had a slow to delayed response.

and YES, I bled the air out correctly (in addition observed the sticking issue unchanged over a period of days and over 100 miles of driving). So this is not my first rodeo. I have had this vehicle for over 20 years and changed the coolant AND thermostat on it every 3 years, just like I did on my other vehicles (I have many and I'm their only mechanic).

So I had to return both and put back the old one - and now everything works perfect with the old one, which is by the way the same part number AC Delco, just 3 years older.

Well here I am just over a year later shopping for a new T-stat, it works but im no achieving operating temp and im not going to dip in water with temp sensor to determine opening temp but my heated air is around 120 deg- 125 and its not that cold out yet.. Sooo maybe I gots me a 140-160 not sure, /// well to update, After removing t-stat I did do the temp check in hot water and t-stat is functioning as designed, opening 195-200 deg. I may need lower intake gaskets on my 96 chevy p/u 5.0l as coolant level was low and no signs of leak.. ) :

The rubber seal/gasket is fine, few on here say the gasket is small and loose... its supposed to be!

Seal/gasket gets compressed when you tighten down intake thermostat housing, its rubber it flats out over time and will look like the one you take off during this replacement! For those who reuse the old gasket, I wouldn't let these people work on my lawn mower.

BTW on a 1997 Chevy 1500 4.3L the intake housing bolt torque spec is 18ft

Its a good idea to use 50/50 premix of Dexcool, even in cold area's its fine. Deionized/distilled water is recommend NOT "tap" if you need to add water.
