192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.
Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and listening pleasure.
12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-Analogue-Converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC become in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors.
The attractive enclosure has a very low profile.
DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.
Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and viewing pleasure.
Picture CD is a CD-R or CD-RW disc on which you can store your MP3 and digital pictures. When inserting a Picture CD in the DVD player, a screen menu will pop up, showing your JPEG's and/or MP3 files on the disc. Just select the music and pictures files you wish to enjoy and press play or OK. You can watch your pictures on TV with your music playing simultaneously.
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.
Other standard features include:- 192kHz/24-bit audio DAC delivers high-quality audio.
- 12-bit/ 108Mhz video DAC for sharp image with natural colors.
- Ultra-slim design.

The crazy thing about this, is that the DVP642 just needs a slight repair which will make it workable if I can find the time to do the repair ( which I have to, since I have a favorite disc jammed in the machine). The First DVP642 I bought lasted, and that was bought for 62-63 dollars. The DVP 5140 ( which is Multiformat, Multiregion, etc) was 47.99 and it is great. Complain all you want about what it has NOT got, but this has features. Yes I will admit that the remote takes a little getting used to, but for a multizone multi-everything gem, this little beast compares with items up in the 1,000 to 1,500 mark; and favorably. Anyways, the cost is low, just look at what you get for the cost of an Optical drive on a PC... its great.
The problem I had with the DVP 642 was the flashing red Power light problem; supposedly this refers to a burned out resistor, and can be fixed "easily" ( I don't know about that, but the instructions on the web are fairly straightforward, you just need the time). So I upgraded with the hope that there was a fix or some change related to the region 4 issue as mentioned above, and I also have not had the time to devote to repairing the 642 ( yet), so I may wind up with two multi-zone players.
Anyways, the 5140 is a keeper, and its great.
So, I looked for a new region free dvd player and came upon this one. And, the instructions for making this region free worked like a charm. One try, and it played the British dvds I've been getting (much much cheaper on Amazon UK than here).
The most important thing of all is that the player plays. And, it does! However, I didn't realize what a great player that Daewoo was until I got this one. The remote here doesn't have an eject button (I know you have to get up to put the disc in) and it doesn't have volume control. I still have to figure out the advance function codes for my universal remote, so I may even be able to get the dvd player to eject with the Universal remote.
This player takes a bit longer to do its functions. Turning it on, off, etc., takes longer-- I can hear it spin and just when I wonder if it is even going to work, it does. It's definitely not as fast as I'd like but it plays perfectly fine and that's the most important thing of all.
All in all, I can't be happier. I received this very fast from Amazon, had it out of the box, hooked it up, programmed it to Region 0 (any region), and had a PAL dvd running in probably under 5 minutes.
UPDATE 8/2013: Just wanted to add it is now August of 2013 and my dvd player is finally dying. It still works, but poorly-- skipping sections of the dvd often and can't read everything anymore. Still, it lasted this long (well, the problems started several months ago). If this was still available new, I'd rebuy it. Since it's not available new, I'm trying another Philips player. If someone finds these new in a warehouse somewhere and lists it here to sell, I'd recommend you grab it. No HDMI though and no USB. I'm buying this one today: Philips Region Free DVD Player - 1080p HDMI Upconverting - PAL/NTSC 110-220 Volts
Yes, it does play bad shape CD and DVD. Remind me who invented the CD? Philips! I supposed that it may explain something..
For the one who said that it does not play DVD-R, my DVD-R plays fine and they are not the most expensive DVD-R, however there are extremely cheap DVD-R who are only compatible to some players... Stay away from those. For saving your life souvenirs of expensive vacation, do not be too cheap.
For the region code, it does play my over-the-sea DVDs using the menu code; it is true that you have to change the code manually because playing in region 0 will not work to play Hollywood movies which check the region code to be exactly 1. The majority of European DVDs (not Hollywood) do not have region code anyway.
So, if you are asking me if I do recommend it, naturally I do.
