With the PaintEater you can prepare most outdoor surfaces, including wood and masonite siding, concrete, and steel. The machine's powerful, 3.2-amp motor delivers 2,600 RPM for removing even the most stubborn pain, paint oxides, and mildew; this optimal rotary speed gives just the right combination of performance and control.
Flex-Disc System for Precise Results
The PaintEater combines a high-powered machine and a tough 3M spun-fiber disc with high-performance abrasive embedded into the fibers. Together they provide you with speed, power, performance, and control, so you don't have to worry about damaging surfaces.
The PaintEater's innovative Flex-Disc System allows the disc to conform to surfaces for precise results around flat trim and siding. The disc can be operated on its edge--to remove stubborn paint chips--or flat--to smooth or feather edges. The outer edge of the disc is ideal for preparing the surface underneath lap siding. The disc's compact size--4-1/2 inches--allows you to access tight corners; its open-web design minimizes buildup of paint and dust and allows the disc to easily glide over screws, nails, or sharp edges without damage.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2025Size: PaintEater V2Verified PurchaseWhere has this monster been all my life 😂 this booger will power through multiple layers of paint very quickly. One word of caution, do not wear loose clothing and tie your hair up if it’s long. This thing will take it all before you can bat an eye. Dead serious! All in all I will not hand sand without this beast ever again!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024Size: PaintEater V2Verified PurchaseI've been using the paint eater to prep cedar siding before re-painting my entire house.
It works quite well and will strip the paint off if you need to remove it all and you can feather pretty good also with it if that's all you need to do. I found where I have old boards with 4 layers of old paint on pine siding it was hard to feather as it was making some deeper rough edges so I used a palm sander to help feather those. On the newer sides of my house it's all cedar and has only one primer and paint layer and it feathers much better on that and I didn't need to do extra sanding on mostly all of that. Overall it was worth buying because it does very well when you haven't got several old layers to deal with. If I had a situation with really bad siding with 4 layers of old paint in really bad shape I would try one of those diamond blade strippers as I think they will strip off old paint a lot faster than this will. This will strip off all the paint if you want, but it would take longer than the diamond blade strippers from what I've seen. Good product to have though and happy I have it for my project as it's doing a great job on the cedar siding with only a couple layers of old paint which hasn't got too much peeling and where it is peeling it seems to feather it well. Also on the old pine siding their was never a primer applied before it was originally stained so I think that is causing it to be harder to feather as it wants to just strip it all off to the bare wood, this probably wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for the lack of a primer on the original solid stain paint job, as the primer would hold the solid stain on better so if can take the sanding without coming completely off.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2023This thing is pathetic and gutless to the higest degree! I have a large area and lots of loose spalling paint to remove. I got it hoping it would be a time saver. I watched reviews online but couldnt seem to find ANY credible or reputable pros that really use them. Now I understand why... I did see reviews from a handfull of DIY'ers with mixed reports. I thought to myself that they were probably just using it wrong. I THOUGHT that anyways. As soon as I fired it up and gave it a test I instantly regretted buying this stupid thing. Its completely gutless. It is far less powerful than any standard orbital sander with some decent paper. I am very well versed when it comes to sanding as I am a flooring contractor and sand peoples whole houses day in and day out. I eyeballed this thing for 2 years before pulling the trigger. When I saw my local paint store (which is top notch in our area) carried it I thought "its got to be worth it if it saves me time, right?" No! I cant say enough bad about this machine because it is a complete joke. Take it from me and learn fron my mistake. Do NOT buy this thing unless you want to feel the agonizing pain of regret. I might as well have thrown my $100 in the sewer.. I am furious!!!
Maybe I can trade it at a pawn shop somewhere. I used it for less than 5 minutes before accepting how ridiculous and impractical it would be to use this heap of junk. Email me your adress and pay for the cost of shipping and I will GIVE it to you. I want this piece of garbage out of my tool lineup because it is complete and utter dead weight.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2025Size: PaintEater V2Verified PurchaseExcellent for prepping deck for finishing. Saves a lot of hand sanding. I am using on a deck with cedar railings. Must use a good mask and eye protection! The deck rail has a Fiberon cocktail rail which overlaps the supporting 2x6 cedar. The sander can remove material very near the overlying rail without removing any of the plastic. The novel metal disk is far better than sandpaper.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2009Size: PaintEater V2Verified PurchaseUpdate 2: the cheap plastic case is the shortcoming of what could a great
Product. The second one broke at the locking pin needed to remove the disc. I am sure this is planned obsolescence.
Update: I used this product for several large jobs. A weak point is the handle , which broke off making the stripper unstable. The handle is held by a plastic bracket.
worked well at removing the paint on my yellow pine exterior siding. Tedious but effective. Where I opted not to fully remove, it did decent job at featheredge. I am happy with results. But it does take a toll on muscles if you use it for several hours! Wear an N95 mask and be careful if you are on a ladder. Have fun!
Notes:
The sanding disk is amazing. so let this gizmo do the work. If you press down impatiently, two things happen. (1) you load (slow down) the motor (this is bad), and (2) you add swirl marks (this is bad). So don't and you will be happier with the result and the gizmo will not break within a few hours.
I was concerned about motor power based on some reviews. But the 3.4A (0.5 Hp) motor is plenty strong. The sanding disk will tend to grab if the unit is far off axis from your body and more power would be dangerous and not more effective. This thing is made for the homeowner. Any more power and the lawyers would be lining up. Still, the plastic body and key parts, like handle bracket, are shortcomings that bother me. For $60 i do not expect heirloom but expect to get 50 hours of use.
The on/off switch is not a very good design but I can live with it.
