For years, still the best solder!

I also have been using this solder for years. So, I agree with the rest of the reviews. It's sold at the local Ace and TruValue hardware stores. It used to be made here in the U.S.A.! It used to say Alpha Metals. Now, it's made in Mexico and says Alpha Fry. It's still the same Quality solder as before!

This solder roll is the 31605 which is the thin wire one. If you prefer a thicker wire, simply buy the 31604 roll. Except for the wire thickness, they're exactly the same. Both are 4 ounces, so you get the same amount of solder. Both are 60% tin and 40% lead, so you get the same percentage.

For some reason, most people buy the thicker wire 31604 here at Amazon. I prefer and recommend the thinner wire 31605 because you can use it for large and small projects. With the thicker 31604, you tend to apply too much solder in small projects.

I've been soldering for years, repairing and building things. Basically I'm a hobbyist-slash-repairist, not a professional soldering tech. I don't have fancy gear, just a $40 iron. What I can tell you is this solder is very easy to work with and you don't have to be a professional to notice! It melts and flows very nicely! I'm very happy with the joints I have made, they are structurally and electrically solid. PLUS, they look good!

I still use flux very generously to help speed up the heat transmission and isolate the work area. I also use heat sinks on my wires and "helping hands" alligator clips to manipulate wires and keep from getting burnt fingers. I expect this roll will probably last a couple of years for me, but when the time comes I will get this one again!

Great solder, it melts quick and is definitely strong enough for any electronics work I've thrown at it. I set my Hakko to around 550 because I get quick clean flows with this product. It's much better than any of that 1$ crap you get from Chinese websites; that stuff melts onto your iron then turns to paste once you apply it to anything! Use this solder. I go through a roll a year usually.

Much easier to control the flow of this thin solder than the thicker 31604

I wish I had found this thinner solder before doing some work on a small circuit board. I had no experience with soldering and purchased the thicker Alpha Fry AT-31604 60-40 Rosin Core Solder (4 Ounces), because of its bestseller status here on Amazon. That one has a diameter of 0.062”. This solder is about half the diameter, at 0.032”. You can definitely work more precisely with this thinner gauge. I don’t use flux, but this solder flows very smoothly with the rosin flux core. One thing I suggest is getting SE MZ101B Helping Hand with Magnifying Glass. The alligator clips and magnifying glass really help when you’re working with small parts and soldering onto tiny traces.

This is great solder for any kind of light to medium electrical use. I have used it for projects with wire from 20 gauge up to 14 gauge so far with excellent results every time. Nice low melting point and flows great! I also use flux.
