At long last, a drawing game where even the worst artist can win. We knew this game had the making of a masterpiece from the moment our testers couldn't put down their pencils. Since everyone draws at the same time, it's always entertaining to see the variety of ways a particular subject gets interpreted. It's even more entertaining to see which drawings get picked as winners. Don't take it personally if you're voted Most Embarrassing or Least Artistic. Take it as source of pride that you know how to draw to win.

I had first purchased this game at Target or Shopko. The friends we played it with also loved it but when they went to purchase it for themselves, it was no longer available. I found some on-line and bought them for those people as gifts. I missed getting one for a brother and sister-in-law that loved the game so this one is for them. What is so great about this game is that someone who can totally NOT draw, can win. Looking at some of your friends and families pictures are super surprising and funny.
My family typically loves games. Luck of the Draw is not fun. An acquaintance recommended this game, saying that it was quite special. She mentioned that is was particularly good since all ages could play together. Well, I suppose that's because then everyone will have the same enjoyment out of it.....very little. You begin by selecting a card. The die is thrown, which tells everyone to draw either the first, second, or third item. This step seems pointless, perhaps only serving to reduce the number of idea cards by three. After everyone draws the item, the papers are mixed so you supposedly can't tell who drew which one. Then, you throw the die again to see if you will have one, two or three categories to work with. Each category describes some attribute - uses the most ink, or should have used an eraser. So, before you draw your picture, you don't know how the picture will be judged. The way to win is for people to select your picture as exhibiting that attribute. However, the anonymous factor is diluted since after a few rounds, you are very likely to recognize each person's drawing style, just as you can recognize someone's handwriting. So, now you need to pretend that you don't know who drew which picture. So, the game is aptly named. Whether your picture demonstrates the characteristic or not is just luck and not fun. Buy another game. We pulled out Pictionary and Taboo after playing just a few rounds of this one. Those are fun.
On the plus side, it is easily played by a wide range of ages and it was fun the first time out, but it isn't one we'll pull out again soon. All players were 16 yrs old or above, it may be more appealing to a younger age group.
I ordered this and two other games for Christmas Eve All-night game night with my siblings. By far, we most enjoyed "Telestrations" (review to come on that), then this game, followed far behind by "In A Pickle."
Luck of the Draw is a pleasant game that allows everyone to participate equally at all times. There's no waiting around and feeling bored, and there are plenty of laughs to be had when revealing the interesting scribbles people jot out in very little time. My siblings and I opted not to roll the dice to determine how many categories go toward each drawing - we always went with three to make it more interesting. What is so great is that everyone has their own voting wheel; thus, no arguments arose due to varying individual perspectives. It was a blast seeing how everyone thought differently (or similarly), in both drawing/depicting the given word, and voting on them.
Two things we did NOT like about this game - the timer - it goes FAST! I tell you, you flip the thing, read the word, put pencil to paper and what feels like 10 seconds later...pencils down! I would consider swapping out the timer for another one if you have another game that utilizes it. Then there is the paper factor. I hate to waste it. You have to draw on one side and place everyone's side down so no one knows who drew what. So using the other side isn't possible unless you swap papers around and mix them up so you have someone else's. This is what we did, and it wasn't a bad method. But we still used a lot of paper. The Telestrations game has a neat solution to this, by using dry erase booklets and markers.
Definitely a game younger kids can play. And older, too (we range in age from 26-37;))
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. We've played this game with kids as young as 7 and adults in their 60s. Everyone enjoyed it and everyone had a chance to win - no real artistic talent is required. Cleverness helps - drawings based on funny word play sometimes get the votes! But sometimes the worst drawings have the advantage. Categories include descriptions such as "best use of white space" or "looks like a mess the cat made" and are applied to topics such as "ballerina," "rubber duckie," or "caboose." Categories are not known until after the topic is sketched. Everyone draws on each turn and everyone votes.
This game is very fun. Anyone can play, but is best for fairest judging if kids are over 10. (otherwise the artwork is easy to pick out). This was a fun game for us. The cards to judge were fun and easy to follow. If you like family game night this is a good one for houses with teens.
Six of us gathered at the kitchen table...oh, this is too good to be true. Great game for each of us. Some were much more artistic than others. No problem. The categories are not based on finesse and skill. Sometimes, it is the lightest, weakest, etc. Fascinating to see how creative we became in about a minute or less. We ALL enjoyed it and can't wait for the next round!
We played this game at Thanksgiving and everyone was able to join in! From the youngest (age 6) to the eldest (60), they all loved it! The play is really simple- you select a card with an item on it and everyone has to anonimously draw the person/ place/ thing/ idea. Then you draw another card with an adjective on it and vote whose drawing best depicts the criteria. (ie. Which drawing looks like the artist didn't know what they were doing?) The object of the game is not to be the best artist, so having a range of interpretations and artistic ability made it even better. At a very affordable price point, your family CAN'T afford to pass up this good time.
