Great snack for baby/toddler/mama
I've been a fan of roasted seaweed for over ten years-it’s compact, tasty and good for travel, too. (Just remember to pack some floss!) I've tried a couple other brands because they were cheaper but the taste was usually pretty BLEAH...I've always been pleased with "Seas Gift". (Just don't buy too much at once, because they WILL go rancid over time.)I introduced this seaweed snack to my daughter when she was around 7-9 months old, and she quickly took a liking to it-teeth aren't really required, wahoo! Fast forward...now that she's almost 3 years old, it's one of the few foods that she has continued to enjoy throughout her rapid growth. Give it a try! :)

Many years ago, my brother and his Korean girlfriend introduced me to roasted seaweed. It used to be an occasional snack for me since it was rare that I had a chance to visit the Asian grocers in my area.

Fast forward to the present day and I have been trying like crazy to stick to my low-carb diet (which I had lost 60 pound the first time back in 2006) so I Google searched salty snacks I can eat while on the diet. Roasted seaweed was mentioned on a site and I immediately grew nostalgic and logged into Amazon to research some good brands.

Between the low price and amazingly good reviews, I decided to take my chances with a 24-pack of Sea's Gift Korean Seaweed Snack (Roasted & Sea Salted flavor).

The shipment just got here and the first thing I did was tear open the boxes (outer shipping box and inner product box), took a package out, opened it and started chomping away. Here are my observations:

Packaging: Compact enough to throw into a purse or backpack for a snack on-the-go.

Size of Seaweed Sheets: Nicely cut into uniform rectangles about the size of my palm.

Texture: The seaweed is nicely roasted so it's very crunchy. Each sheet is also paper thin which makes the crunch that much better.

Taste: There is just enough salt to give it a good flavor without being overbearing. There is not the strong fishy taste that some reviewers claim but there is the taste of the sea which to me is slightly fishy but not a turn off at all. Most people eat fish (tuna, salmon, bass, catfish, ect) so I'm not sure why some people are turned off by any hint of fish flavor unless they hate fish altogether.

Overall: I am extremely pleased with all aspects of Sea's Gift from the packaging to the taste. I will be buying this product regularly!

My sons often raid my cabinets for my sushi nori. (Nori is the Japanese name for this product, called "Kim" in Korean) They just eat sheets of it, not even bothering to toast it sometimes. This is the kind of seaweed that they wrap sushi in. I usually hide my packages of Nori sheets, so that I have enough to use when I want to make my vegetable sushi rolls with brown rice.

When I saw this product, I decided to give it a try, and I must agree--it is DELICIOUS! You get 24 little packs of tiny nori (kim) sheets, roasted in sesame oil and lightly salted. There's hardly any calories in this--25 per pack--but the main nutritional value is vitamin A (39%) and vitamin C (20%). I think that the flavor is wonderful, but it may be strange if you aren't used to seaweed or sushi. In that case I suggest that you just buy a small package of it somewhere first, and see how you like it. Anyway, the little packs are attractive, and handy to grab for snacking. As other reviewers have pointed out there is a lot of packaging involved in order to protect the fragile tiny sheets, but probably no worse than packs of cookies or chips, I think.

I like this stuff, and I'm going to gift most of it to my now grown sons, because I know they'll love it. I haven't tried any other snack packs of nori (KIM), so I can't compare. But I can suggest, that if you like to eat this stuff, but don't want all the packaging, you can buy nori sheets by the bulk pack. We like to toast them lightly over an open flame, which is kind of fun, but don't let your little kids do this alone! The flavor is good, though drier and less salty than the "Sea Gift" snacks. Either way, Nori/Kim is a terrific seaweed!

I got completely addicted to the Trader Joe's seaweed snacks back when I was living in California. Now that I'm in DC, the Trader Joe's here doesn't carry the product consistently, and I prefer delivery groceries anyway. But I've been craving my favorite snack, and started searching around on Amazon for a substitute. This is more or less identical to the TJs seaweed snacks. Each package is slightly smaller than the TJs version, but the seaweed is the same taste and texture. I think it's actually cheaper too. Now if I can only find a substitute for their olive oil and sea salt popcorn, I'll be golden...

Edit: A surprising percentage of the bad reviews for this product are from people who had never consumed Gim/Kim or Nori and were shocked (shocked!) to discover that, well, seaweed tastes like seaweed. If you've never had roasted seaweed before and don't know whether you like it, buying a 24 pack is perhaps not such a great idea. Both Trader Joe's and Whole Foods carry roasted seaweed in single-serving packages for about $1 each. That's a much better option than buying a giant box of it and then writing an angry review that basically says "ZOMFG! Seaweed! Ew!"

Yuk! First of all, NOT crunchy, as someone mentioned. Little green slips of seaweed smashed into wafer think pieces of what looks like litmus paper. I suppose they could melt on your tongue if you could stand the taste. I did not expect seaweed to taste good but I did expect it to be crunchy, as described. There is literally nothing that can be done with these floppy pieces of yuk. Why put them in snack type bags if they are meant to be used in Miso Soup? Before you buy, I suggest trying a sample. I'm stuck with a case of 24. If anyone wants a free bag, email me your address. Maybe I'll try putting them in the oven. They couldn't be any worse

I really like the taste of this Roasted Seaweed Snack. But I would not call it low-salt. You can taste the seaweed, but the predominate taste is salt.

Each pack has a little plastic bin holding the paper thin slices of seaweed plus a silica moisture-absorbing packet. Each pack weighs only 0.17 oz - so the silica packet and plastic bin are most of the weight.

In other words, there is not much to this snack. It's packaged very well, so that the thin slices are intact and dry. I like the taste, and the seaweed does have vitamins, especially vitamin C. But there is little volume to the snack in one packet and yet one packet has 50 mg of sodium.

Granted, it's low salt in terms of mg. But it's not low salt in terms of percentage of volume. This isn't a snack to stave off hunger - there just isn't enough of it. But it is a snack that is tasty.
