I have two of these chained together with all my keyboards/trackballs/external drives, optical drives, thumb drives and Lightning and micro-USB cables plugged into them.
I have a Linux test machine and a laptop for school. When I'm working with the Linux box, I connect the first hub in the chain into it. When I'm doing school work, I plug into the laptop. The hubs connect seamlessly whether I'm typing, or doing a system install from a bootable optical connected to them.
The ONLY issue I've had seems to relate to power output. I have an older slimline external DVD drive that has a split USB cable. The hub end splits out to two cables. One for data, and the other for power. If I plug both of those cables into the same hub, the optical will not work. If I plug one cable into each of the two hubs it will work for a while, then stop working unless I unplug it then replug it. It does the same thing with my mini-laptop. It never does that (works fine) if I plug into a desktop computer.
These powered hubs should be putting out sufficient amperage at each port to properly power this optical, but they don't. I have a second external optical (Levino with a metal case) that only has one cable for power and communication and it works fine every time.
I'm very happy with these hubs.
They always when I plug the daisy chained setup into my mobile laptop.
If you are going to get a hub, you may as well go for 7 ports rather than less - as I say, you'll eventually need them. Also, you are better with a powered unit, like this one. Some hubs are not self-powered, which will cause you problems when you connect peripherals that draw their power from the computer.
Connecting it to my Dell Inspiron Vista machine was simple. A couple of seconds after I plugged it in, a message informed me that the driver was installed and the hub was ready for use.
If I encounter any problems with it in the future, I'll update this review, but for the moment it's working fine.

If Belkin can't handle a simple phone call, then how am I to trust that they would send a replacement and trust that they would refund my money.
Everyone was very polite - scripted politeness. It doesn't matter how polite and how many apologies one gets from customer service if there is no efficiency placed into their policies. Poor policies, poor procedures, poor quality.
Some have expressed concerns about the speed of the device. I have not noticed any difference in speed of the five devices currently connected. A Pentax DS Mobile 600(which rocks), an HP DeskJet 6940, an HP Office Jet All in One J3680, my IPod and a Davis Weather station. I occasionally pop in an 8GB SanDisk for back up and file transfer.
I am using a Dell Dimension C521 running Vista (which does NOT rock).
The product has a reasonably small foot print and is cute (my wife's comment). If you are looking for a way to hookup a bunch of USB items I can recommend this device without hesitation. There may be technical concerns beyond the scope of my computer knowledge (which isn't very hard to exceed) but for the everyday user this thing just works.
