I bought this set for general cupcake and dessert decorating. I used it to frost cupcakes I was taking to a picnic, and they looked AMAZING! Several people thought they were from a professional bakery. I've never used pastry bags before, but it was so easy, even with a thick peanut butter frosting. I highly recommend this set, especially for the price.

This kit is great for beginners! Word of advice...visit the wilton website...it gives you step by step instructions on how to use all their products (including the tips in this kit!) as well as giving GREAT recipes and ideas. Love wilton products, and love that they have such an awesome website!

the tips work great i use ziplock bags and cut the ends off and out the tips inside and start decorating or filling. so cheap so easy and so homemade.

Good for beginners--but no couplers included!

I wanted to pipe icing onto cupcakes for my niece's birthday, versus simply spreading icing onto the cupcakes. This set includes plastic icing bags and four tips--really only one of these tips was big enough for piping icing in a swirl onto the cupcakes. The other tips are good for decorating, not for piping big swirls. Everything included in this set worked fine, however it is a bit of a misnomer to call this a cupcake decorating set. You can't decorate cupcakes with only the items in this set.

The directions somehow suggest that you could use these tips and bags without the white plastic couplers. I discussed with an experienced friend and she said, no, GET THE COUPLERS. I'm very glad I did--this would have been an icing disaster if I hadn't. Even with the couplers, it was still tricky to cut the bags precisely enough to not have icing come out the sides of the connection point between the bag and the tip. The other "issue" is that you need both the normal size couplers (for three out of the four tips included) and you need a large coupler for the larger tip--and thus larger icing bags. So, in order to pipe icing in a swirl onto my cupcakes, I had to also purchase a large coupler and larger pastry bags. No big deal, but just difficult to know before really getting into it with this kit. Hope this helps!

Good Starting Point

Wilton's 12 Piece Cupcake Decorating Set is a great starting point for people who want to decorate cakes or cupcakes. I come with Star tips 1M and 22, round tip 12 and bismarck tip 230. I used the bismarck tip 230 to fill cupcakes with filling and the 1M for decorating. However, this kit does not come with couplers. So you might want to purchase those as well. It's fine if you don't have them, especially if you are starting out, but if you want to be adventurous then try them out.

Great starter product!

I have never used decorating tips before, but I frequently make cupcakes and wanted to be able to do the swirl with the frosting. I shopped around quite a bit and read reviews before deciding on this set. Some of the reviews said that the bags were very small and therefore had to be refilled a lot, and that the set wasn't good enough for professional bakers. The bags are a little small if you are using the biggest tip to frost cupcakes, you have to refill it after every ten cupcakes or so, but it lasts longer if you are using a smaller tip. I really like the size of the bags because I think a larger bag would be harder to hold and maneuver, especially when using a smaller tip. Also once you have used up these bags you can just buy larger ones if you want, and you will already have some experience decorating. I have not had any issues with this set, and if it is not good enough for professionals then they should spend a little more and get something professional-grade. I do bake a lot and love this set, it is very easy to use. Some of my friends even said my cupcakes looked professional! I would recommend this set to anyone just starting out buying decorating tips.

not worth it

I'm a first time cupcake decorator and ordered these to ice my daughter's birthday cupcakes. End product was a huge mess- icing everywhere, the bag and the tip didn't stay connected and it was really hard to get a grip.
I ended up ordering the Wilton Dessert Decorator Plus, and it worked great- allowed me to make the star tips I needed with great ease.
Don't waste your money on this!
