I've known Weleda Skin Food as an effective, high-quality moisturizer for the body. But my recent order of five tubes on Amazon were anything but. I received a product that looks like Weleda from Amazon that is more akin to sludge than moisturizer. Whatever is in these tubes, it does NOT moisturize; indeed, it's difficult to even get whatever this is to squeeze out of the tube.

This is not the first time I've received substandard, obviously counterfeit products from Amazon. From now on I'm going to buy directly from the manufacturer instead of from Amazon. Amazon is no "deal" when what you receive isn't real.

What I wish I knew before buying

After reading dozens of rave reviews in the beauty community about this being a dupe for LaMer I decided to try Skin Food with the intent on using it for my face. Overall I really like this product, but here are things I wished I knew before I bought it:
- It’s an incredibly thick formula comparable to cream cheese. I wish I was kidding, at first I thought maybe the formula was cold or spoiled, but this is how it is. Warming it up in your hands before applying is a must!
- It’s got a strong smell. I personally didn’t mind the smell, very herbal and natural from the oils used, like sweet almond oil, rosemary, and calendula. For folks who prefer lighter scents, this might not be for you.
-The cream cheese formula makes my skin look really, really greasy. It doesn’t easily absorb into my skin like I had hoped, and I get shiny residue everywhere. No amount of warming it up, dabbing it on, or blotting it off seems to work. This will NOT look good under your makeup. Dabbing on cheekbones as a highlighter? Yes. Using it as a priming moisturizer before makeup? You’ll look like a melting snowman.
The final verdict? Despite what I mentioned above, this has been a great night time moisturizer. It locks in whatever other serums you layer underneath and when I wake up in the morning my skin looks bouncy and glowing. It’s all natural, no mineral oil or preservatives, and it’s affordable. Will buy again!

Wow! Can't Believe How This Works on Dry Skin!

I found this product from an Aug. 2017 Town&Country list of 25 top anti-aging products. I use a pricy botanical serum that also made the list and this product was about the least expensive item to make their cut. Yes, this all natural product is great on hands and feet, but what I am thrilled about is how it works in my facial skin care routine. At night after all the cleansing and moisturizing, I pat a very small amount of Skin Food on my marionette lines, my lips and upper lips and across the bone below my eyes and to the side of the eye on the crows feet, making sure not to get this too close to my eyes, and finally on the lines of my forehead. It makes a huge difference on my 66 year old, dry, sensitive skin. I would give this 10 stars if I could. I applied this at night before bed the first time and could see a difference the next morning. My skin is so dry that I can do the same thing in the morning and do on days when I don't have to immediately go somewhere as it takes a little bit of time to soak in on me. It comes out of the tube somewhere between a cream and an ointment, but seems to melt when you rub it between your fingers. I also love the smell and will keep using this product as long as it is available.

First off, I don’t know what to think about this product. It’s more of an “experience” than a moisturizer. I went online and was looking for comparable products to Creme de La Mer. Someone’s blog recommended this as the number 2 dupe. I spent quite some time just trying to figure out what it is, or does. After my first application, my dog sniffed me for about two hours. Clearly we were both intrigued and trying to figure this out. Good? Bad? I don’t know. You decide. I’ll post what I liked and didn’t like.

1.) The Smell-has a strong smell of mineral oils with a slight residual beeswax smell and some other undertones which I can’t figure out. Overall I would say the smell is oily or medicine-y (making up words LOL). If you are sensitive to smells at all, this is not a good product for you. You’re not going to put this on and feel fresh and smell pretty. Consider this more like a therapeutic treatment.

The good thing, there’s no added artificial fragrance. You are really smelling the natural ingredients, strong as they are.

2.) It’s oily/greasy. The first little bit that came out of the tube had A lot more oil around it then did the rest of the contents of the tube. Do not let this freak you out. I imagine some of the oil floats to the top of each tube. When you initially rub the product in, it is shiny and greasy from the natural oils. If you continue to rub through this, you will then get to a texture that feels soft and has somewhat of a beeswax feel. This is where we talk about the benefit of this product. As you rub the natural oil’s into your skin, it will then be sealed and locked in by a barrier of beeswax. If you can get past the strange smell and weird texture at first., and can appreciate what this is doing for your skin, you will like this product.

That being said, this product is best used as an intense nightly moisturizer. A little goes a long way. The oily, greasy consistency allows it to spread nicely covering a lot of your skin easily. I would not recommend wearing this product on your face as a daily moisturizer or underneath your make up.

For the price, and the benefit for your skin, this is a good buy. Just do not plan on this as a daily moisturizer, which is what I thought I was getting.

I've been reading about this cream in magazines for like a decade and finally gave it a try when I got a chemical peel because it's supposed to be like industrial strength moisturizer. It definitely lives up to the hype. Aside from the fact that it smells like putting straight up gin on your face, it's super emollient and has tons of hydrating oils in it. It's a little on the harder side to rub in just because it's such a thick juicy cream but it's great for dry patches and is definitely the kind of all-purpose fix you'd want to have in your bag. I've only used it during summer but I can not WAIT to take this bad boy for a spin this winter. (Also Rihanna likes it, allegedly, if that does anything for you.)
