Sadly this thing sucks. I was really disappointed, it harbors mold and bacteria like crazy and is extremely difficult to clean, and all my sprouts spoiled by day 3 and YES, I READ and FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS to a T! So I dunno, I'm back to my mason jar again and it is doing fine. This thing just doesn't drain well enough the there is too much humidity and no real way to clean/rinse off the sprouts before it's too late. They basically just sit and marinate in a pool of bacteria.

This sprouter is an ingenious idea!! There are drainage holes within the trays (small trays, and 1 large tray) which are kept at a slight angle inside the easy green to insure proper drainage. The activiations timer makes it easy to tailor the on off cycles to your specific needs. The idea of mixing air is great, it keeps the seeds from rotting. I had an issue with seeds sometimes sprouting in the drainage holes and water backing up a little bit, not a big deal to solve, I just put a coaster on the side of the easy green opposite the drainage hole on the front and back leg to make it angle slightly to the drainage hole side and that solved the problem, it is entirely possible that my table wasn't level to begin with, either way an easy fix. Cleaning is semi-automatic by adding 5 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide weekly through the machine at 2 liter water level and then rinsing!! It is really easy to use. I also added a 6500k daylight cfl bulb to a 10.5" brooder light that I sit on top of the machine and connect the light also to an automatic timer. The other thing I found great was that when you grow wheatgrass or microgreens you do not need a growing medium!! The conditions inside the machine allow growing these greens without soil or medium which is really nice, of course you can use soil or medium if you want to. If growing without soil or medium, you can simply add some 100% water soluble hydroponic fertilizer to the water after the germination stage, which some believe helps nutrient content of microgreens and wheatgrass. Fertilizer isn't necessary for sprouts. It does require filling with water daily unless you opt for the automatic water filler that is available on the easy green website. In comparison to rinsing sprouts though, it is less time consuming and saves water. You must also dump the drain water, I catch mine in 2 or 3 gallon bottles so I don't have to empty the drainage water very often, the microgreens absorb a lot of water, sprouts not as much. Anyway great design that really works, and a quality build, great job to the inventor of this!!

I ordered this sprouter last week an it arrived on a Thursday afternoon, and was set up by Thursday evening.
At first I was fairly delighted with the concept of the unit. A motorized mister hydrates the enclosure at set periods defined by a separate timer, and the whole thing drains via some plastic tubing to a bucket or sink below.
Unfortunately, the mister stopped working sometime on day 2, as I noticed on day 3 that it had ceased using water, the sprouts were smelling a bit off, and the mister was not running during the designated fifteen-minute periods on the timer. Plugging the unit directly into the outlet was met with further silence from the unit.
On day 4 as I was filling out the return on Amazon the mister kicked on and ran for about 30 seconds before shutting off again (perhaps it was the end of a cycle). Today is Monday, day 4, and the mister appears to be working, but I cannot predict whether it will be working on the days thereafter, and especially after the warranty expires after month 6.
Reading the other reviews about this issue, I had hoped that the manufacturer had *RESOLVED* the mister reliability issue, as one would expect for a unit which is just some plastic, a small motor, and a timer that costs $229. However, this is clearly still not the case. For $229 I expect a device that runs reliably for at least two years, not something that I will need to babysit on a daily basis to check if it is still operating.
So this is going back, long before there is any danger of an expiring return period. I will work on coming up with some homemade system out of more reliable components.

Grows great greens! It is noisy, but if keep it away from the common areas of our home, I can barely hear it when it mists. It does require cleaning once a week and sterilizing once a month. I use a high percentage hydrogen peroxide, they do recommend bleach. Instructions are pretty clear regarding this. Operating instructions are very clear. I wish the height was a little taller, but that's minor. I had sprouted some adzuki beans and they reached the top rather quickly. They were fine, just a bit bent over. At the time I was only sprouting 3 trays so there was room but if all 5 trays were in use, the sprouts would have hung over the other tray blocking misting. I guess I just need to harvest more quickly! It is a good sized unit so it does take up a good amount of space, but you get a good amount of crop in return. You easily get a weeks worth of wheatgrass in the large tray in about a weeks time for pennies! You can also skip the presoak stage before starting you crop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well once mastered.

It took several weeks before I learned how to use this effectively. I tried growing cartridges of mucilaginous seeds, like arugula and curly cress, but I couldn't get that to work: I tried vermiculite, which worked but was hard to wash off afterwards; I tried paper towel, but that was as bad as just using the cartridges without it. My current method is to sprinkle 2-2.5 small spoonfuls of broccoli seeds, followed by a spoonful of cabbage or mustard seeds, and lastly adding 2/3 of a spoonful of mucilaginous seeds. This works, and it takes week to grow a cartridge.

Rather than go through the extensive cleaning procedure as described and recommended weekly, just wiping it out with paper towels 2 to 3 times per week keeps it clean, and the method described in the instructions need only be done once a month.

Very great to produce fresh sprouts. However, the motor is not so great, breaks offently and is very expensive to change (90$ and more). It broke twice since 4 years now.
