The 4x4x4 Rubik's Cube is a great next step for those who can complete the 3x3x3. In fact, depending on how you solve the 3x3x3, the 4x4x4 can be very easy. Other than running into the Parity errors, you basically solve it like a 3x3x3. My only complaint is that it is not very durable. Because of all the moving pieces and different directions they can travel in, you have to be very careful with it or it will explode. My first one exploded because I did not have it aligned properly when I tried to turn a side. Anyway, I moving up to the 5x5x5 and would highly recommend this product.

When I bought this a couple of years ago it was the only 4x4 on the market. For that time it was good, but now there are better cheaper ones out there that are functionally better.

However, this is a good cube for a beginner who just wants a fun puzzle to solve. This is for someone who is not worried about solving it in the fastest time, but wants to just have a fun time solving it. You also buy a part of history when you buy the Rubik's brand.

The layers are not that smooth and might cause some issues to turn when you want them to turn, but it does give your fingers a good workout :D.

We bought this one after reading reviews on Amazon about the cheaper versions of the cube that felt flimsy and were not fun playing with. Having owned several 3x3 with varying qualities, I know it is important for the cube to move "smoothly" for playing enjoyment. This cube feels "solid" enough and smooth enough - however, if you are the least bit rough and do not line up the layers, it will fall apart, like ours did. The upside? we got to put it back together, which is an adventure in and of itself. If your frustration tolerance is low, you can buy the book that teaches how to "solve" it - we did buy the book but haven't opened it yet. The cube has seen quite a bit of action in the car, where it will live and (hopefully) entertain on long commutes- I am glad it is a compact one piece and big enough not to get lost. It is a new level of challenge for those who have mastered the 3x3, and the strategy, my boys surmise, is different for this one. We are enjoying it and I would recommend this puzzle.

After learning the standard rubik's cube, I got one of these for more challenge. Didn't disappoint on that front. This cube is incredibly difficult to turn. I thought that after a break in period it would loosen up. That was not the case. In fact it became more difficult to turn. It would frequently lock up and instead of a 90 degree turn, I would have to turn it 270 the other direction. I was not speed solving and it was not an outer alignment issue, the cube doesn't like turn. After maybe 20 or so solves this one finally bit the dust. During an outer layer turn it locked up, I tried to spin it in the other direction and the corner piece broke off and the cube fell apart. I got a shengshou 4x4x4 and that thing has never locked up and turns better than official branded Rubik's cubes.

I've had this cube for about a month now and use it on a regular basis. At first I thought it was a little tough to turn because it was brand new so I kept using it hoping it would eventually wear in. Unfortunately it has not gotten any easier at all. I am constantly struggling to do the most basic moves and peices pop out on a regular basis. It is very frustrating to use this cube. Even though it still works I am most likely going to replace it with a different brand. I don't know if Hasbro just makes poor quality because I bought the 5x5 cube from "Winning Moves" and it is great. My 5x5 moves much easier than this 4x4. I would strongly recommend getting a different brand of 4x4 cube before buying this one. You will not be satified with this.

My thirteen-year-old son mastered the 3x3 Rubik's cube and tried out a friend's 4x4 and loved it. So we bought him one for Christmas. He can solve it, but it takes him MUCH longer than his 1:15 time with the 3x3! He says once you figure out the algorhithms its a piece of cake! After a couple of days he is getting it in less than 15 minutes. This is something he loves to take in the car or sit with in front of the TV. He likes to keep his hands busy!

The first day of use and one of the tiles broke off. It was not due to my son trying to pull it apart like most kids with Rubiks cubes. He was working on solving it and it broke off.

I bought this cube because I can solve 3x3. This is really a good challenge, you get a lot of fun and you will not solve it so easy. Of course the cube is not so strong, but if you treat it well will last a lot, so it worth the price, I just recommend this, is so fun.
