I've had a variety of watering cans in a variety of shapes over the years. I have to carry water from my kitchen sink, across my living room to my balcony to water plants. I hate it when the water slops over the top or through the spout when I go to water the plants. I also hate spouts that don't direct the water well to the containers on my balcony.

Though small, this has been a wonderful replacement for my older watering cans. It comes with an attached sprinkler head for bigger pots. That can be snapped on to a storage spot on the spout so you can water without it. The long, thin spout makes it easy to direct the water where it should go.

The design of the watering can really reduces slops and spills. It is small but that hasn't been a deal breaker for me.

I recently decided to get into Bonsai. I recall my father doing Bonsai when he was younger. A few years ago I became a Master Gardener with the extension service but was frustrated that I did not have the money to invest in outdoor plantings that are prone to drought and insect damage. Bonsai fills my interest just right. My father gave me his collection of Bonsai tools, but there was no tool for watering.

I found myself taking all the bonsai to the sink once or twice a week for watering. But moving everything around was not enjoyable. So I decided a watering can would be a good idea. I started out with a glass measuring cup, but that would wash away soil and gravel. The measuring cup made a mess of things.

After doing my research I settled on the Haws watering cans. While I would prefer the brass, nickle, silver or even gold watering cans - they don't fit my budget. I finally decided on the .5 liter plastic Haws watering can.

The watering can is very well designed. It is perfect for watering half a dozen bonsai plants at a time. I like the option of the spray or the spout. The spray is very fine and just perfect for watering the moss. The can gives a nice gentle rain at a bonsai size - meaning the droplets are just right for a smaller version of a full size tree.

On very rare occasions a purchase makes me smile. This one did that for me. Very cool. Whoever designed these watering cans was a genious.

For the casual hobbyist, the Bosmere Haws watering can is a decently manufactured watering can. It has a small capacity and can only hold 1 pint (2 cups or 0.5 L) of water. However, it's perfect for keeping the soil indoor house plants moist. If you're looking to soak your plants in water, I would suggest going with a larger capacity watering can of at least a gallon (about 4 L).

The watering can is constructed out of a glossy injection-molded rigid plastic resin. As opposed to hollow handles of cheaper competitors, the Bosmere Haws model features solid plastic handles. In this particular 1 pint model, the handle strength is not a design issue because it's so small. However, for a watering can of a significantly larger capacity, I think the solid handles in Bosmere Haws models would be better suited than it's competitors to withstand the functional stresses of regular use.

As for the issue of the detachable showering head, I can definitely foresee it being an issue. Bizarrely, the showering head is made out of a different plastic than the hard plastic body of the watering. The head is made out of a softer, flexible plastic that scratches up easily. Because the attaching sleeve is too flexible and constructed too thinly, I am not surprised that many people have experienced the showering head cracking at the base where it joins the watering can. Strictly speaking about its function, though, the perforated tin holes of the shower head delivers a soft, diffused stream of water. Furthermore, I should note that I experienced some sloppy, errant leakage using the showering head.

Overall, I really enjoy my Bosmere Haws watering can. It definitely has its flaws, but for indoor use, I love its size for giving plants a regular drink of water. I picked out the red watering can, and it's a bright and glossy cherry color. Hopefully, I won't be experiencing too many issues with it in the future. I'll update my review if I do.

LOL.
So before I bought this I read some of the reviews complaining about it leaking ... wasn’t enough to deter me away so I ordered it. Glad I did!!

Does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

It also does leak at the bottom, at the seam VERY INCREDIBLY SLOWLY - IF YOU LEAVE WATER IN THE THING FOR HOURS AKA OVERNIGHT. LOL

Which you’re not supposed to do anyway lol. But yeah, don’t be lazy and you’ll love this little watering can. :)

All seriousness, the can has a nice fine rose and very very low pressure watering. Great for fragile/young saplings.

I ordered this so I am able to water my bonsai trees. I actually thought it was a little bigger than pictured, but it is pretty small. Packed very well. No breaks or cracks. Although, the rose leaks, doesn't have a good secure fitting, I can see where this will wear down over time. I will eventually get a bigger one. I may use a silicone adhesive try to fix the small leak on the rose, its not too substantial. For the most part, this does the job. Works mostly as intended.

--- 12/31/2015
Still having issues with the rose, it comes out too fast and leaks like its not sealed around the rose, not coming out of the holes properly, might be contacting support for a replacement
--- 1/5/2015
I contacted Amazon to have a replacement sent out, This one don't seem to be doing it as much as the other. I think they need to make a seal around the brass part so it don't look out of the sides. I am dropping this down to 3 stars, as I use this indoors for some Bonsai trees. I don't need to have it leaking over everything when it rushes out and comes out too fast.

I just love Haws watering cans. Yes they are dearer if not much more expensive than something from B&M but they are such a joy to use. They balance nicely in your hand and pour with ease. Love them.
