Gross stain on two we’ve ordered...

Gross stain on two we’ve ordered...
We registered for this for our nursery and our in laws purchased it. This is the SECOND one they’ve ordered that had a huge brown stain (no pic from the first one but it was even bigger and on the part where the baby will lay) that we will have to send back. What the heck is up with this mattress? It seems so nice and should be for the price! But a huge nasty mold stain for our baby to sleep on? No thank you!
Thank you for your feedback

I can't speak to the actual comfort of the child on this mattress just yet (due in October), but I can say that so far I'm impressed. This product arrived in perfect condition and does not have any kind of a chemically, plasticky smell! I didn't want a super firm mattress (because babies deserve a comfy mattress, even if it has to be waterproof) and this one seems firm enough to be safe but has the right amount of give to be comfortable. I really like the fact that it's all organic as well given all the recent concern with exposure of today's children to phthalates and other chemicals in the toys, bedding and clothing they come in contact with. Hope the baby likes it!

Follow up 12/29/2012 - My daughter slept comfortably on this for 2+years and it has held up amazingly. The surface of the mattress is so easy to clean and no divot has occurred in the spots where she liked to sleep most. I feel like it regulated temperature well too. Stayed cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Will definitely be using it for baby #2 due in a few months.

I have had this mattress for over 3 years and have had two babies use it. I was attracted to the fact that it was organic etc. and when researching it as a new paranoid mom, this one seemed best. Unfortunately it is anything but best.

I have had no issues that other people seem to have with sagging or unevenness. However, my mattress is HARD. Very heavy and very, very hard. Its heaviness made changing sheets a nightmare. Plus it was so hard I had to start wrapping blankets around the mattress and then covering it tightly with sheets to try give my child some relief.

When baby #2 came along I was so happy to graduate my 2 year old to a new mattress (lighter, foam, much softer but firm and held its shape - half the price!) but sad that my new born had to do his "time" on this mattress because I could not justify just tossing this mattress out due to the cost (but I wanted to.)

Baby #2 is now 2 years old and will be graduating to a toddler bed and I will get him the same mattress as my other son. So glad to be rid of this monstrosity. Believe me, I understand your need to put your baby in something safe and comfortable. This mattress may be safer but is NOT comfortable and there are options out there that are both safe AND comfortable. As such, this mattress is not worth the price, not by a long shot.

I had this mattress months before my baby arrived... looked great, chemical free, organic... loved it.
Well, after only 3 months of my little guy sleeping on it, the mattress wasn't feeling or looking firm anymore. I even had to position my baby in different spots to try and find him a flat spot to sleep on. Unacceptable safety wise (and $$$ wise).
So, I emailed Naturepedic and described what was occurring, and they set up to ship me a new mattress immediately! The mattress arrived within days, and it was much more firm than my previously purchased one was when it was new! My son is now 16 months and the mattress is holding up great!
Get this mattress for the chemical-free factor, the organic factor, and the customer service!!!

Our toddler's mattress that she has had since she was born in her crib was supposed to just move right into her toddler bed with her (we have a 4-in-1 crib), but the mattress didn't last (it was a Sealy). Springs were popped up to the surface and the mattress sort of cracked in the middle, exposing the stuffing and springs. She's NEVER leaked onto the mattress or used it aggressively, so we were pretty bummed. She's 3.5 years old, and still using her toddler bed, so we had to find another small mattress since she's not ready for a twin. Once I started researching, I was appalled at the level of harmful chemicals in these and all mattresses. I wish I knew then what I know now. We ordered this Naturpedic based on the high reviews it received. Despite it being really expensive for a mattress that she will probably only use another couple of years, I just couldn't justify exposing her to the harmful chemicals they use to make standard mattresses, especially given the amount of time she spends on and the close proxemity she has with her mattress. If I could offer any advice, it would be to those purchasing this mattress as their newborn's crib mattress and then you can use it to transition to the toddler bed. It fits perfectly into the 4-in-1 crib and toddler beds measure the same as well (except IKEA beds, which are sized specifically for their crummy mattresses). It has NO smell/odor and the center was not higher like others have stated. I've also skipped using a $50 mattress pad and folded an organic blanket under her fitted sheet, and there is no plastic sound. It's rather soft and she noticed right away how comfortable it is. I definitely recommend it.

I really like having the piece of mind that my baby isn't inhaling toxic fumes when he's sleeping; but it but it is slightly thicker and wider than most crib mattresses so I had a hard time finding sheets that fit. We've mostly co-sleep with my son so he's barely used it and the middle started to sag a bit, I imagine if your baby is sleeping on it every single night that it would sag really quickly. Also I was not able to use it when I converted the crib into a toddler bed because it was too wide and couldn't fit the safety rails. I really wanted to love it, but it has been way too much of a hassle especially given the price on it.
