Released more than a decade past its peak in popularity, Pearl Jam proves it still has what it takes to captivate an audience with the concert film Immagine in Cornice. Culled from footage taken throughout the band's 2006 tour of Italy, the film captures the preternaturally youthful Eddie Vedder mesmerizing audiences with his full, rich voice. One of grunge music's defining bands, Pearl Jam continues to produce new music but isn't afraid to rest on its laurels. Unlike some groups that refuse to perform "oldies" for their fans, this DVD shows that fans are treated to hits such as "Alive," "Even Flow," and "Better Man," as well as an incendiary cover of their buddy Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World." Directed by Danny Clinch, who exhibits a keen eye for capturing a live concert experience, Immagine offers peeks backstage, as well as moments that are both charming and calculated, such as Vedder learning to speak a few Italian phrases to win over the crowd (Not that the fans needed to be won over). There are a handful of groups that can play sold-out venues without having a record at the top of the charts, and Pearl Jam--an incredibly seasoned live band--is one of them. The songs sound crisp and the musicians (guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, bassist Jeff Ament, drummer Matt Cameron, organist Boom Gaspar) look as though they are having the time of their lives. While not as compelling as Jim Jarmusch's "Year of the Horse," which documented Neil Young's 1996 tour of the same name, Immagine in Cornice is a thoughtful look at a thought-provoking and still relevant band. --Jae-Ha Kim

It's a must see, and a must have, If you're a PJ fan. The picture and sound quality, camera angles, etc. are stunning. The production values, cinematography, and audio quality of this DVD are fantastic. Lots of cool footage of Italian scenery and off-stage interviews in between the concert footage. This is easily one of the most enjoyable rock documentaries / concert films I have seen. Right from the beginning of the DVD when the band is about to take to the stage, I felt the same thrill of anticipation as I've experienced at the actual Pearl Jam concerts that I've attended.

Immagine in Cornice is by far the best Pearl Jam DVD to date. It gives a great side of the band that we've yet to see. The only thing that comes close to this is an hour special I saw on Eddie Vedder spending a few days at Laird Hamilton's home (it was on HDNet or Mojo, I forget). The song selection has so many of my favorites and I'm glad to see songs like Blood and Alive finally make it on a cut of a DVD release. I highly recommend this to anyone remotely interested in the band.

This is one of my favorite PJ Documentaries. It does give you a little glimpse into PJ (off the stage), but I did find myself wanting more one on one interviews. The set list is decent, not great (although I love the Lukin and Immortality scenes), wish they were longer. The best part of this documentary is how it looks, if the set list was better this would have been my favorite PJ doc.

Whether you are a Pearl Jam fan or just a fan of good rock music, this is a must-have DVD. The sound and picture quality are outstanding. The images of the band are clear, well lit, and in great color. The DVD has a little 'Rattle and Hum' flavor to it, with live performances on rooftops and the street, as well as intimate portraits of the band members backstage and on their own time. And most importantly, the band ROCKS with outstanding musicianship and performances throughout. Thanks, Pearl Jam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam at it`s best und beste Werbung für Rock-Musik!!!!
Reviewed in Germany on October 19, 2007

Pearl Jam have always been in my top five bands of all time, just seen them live and they are firmly at the top of my list.
This dvd is fantastic as well, not just a live show but various tracks from gigs around italy, with great clips between tracks which go some way to showing the bond between Pearl Jam and their fans, and also some great soundbites relating to subjects from Religion and organs through to politics, which just round this off to be one of the best live music dvds Ive ever seen

Just buy it, you know it makes sense
