Finicky to start with!

I purchased this for my sister, for a pc I was building for her. This seemed like a great middle ground wireless adapter. However, while I was careful with my purchased and did look at reviews. I didn't realize how bad it would be.
The drivers this comes with are completely useless. There is no point in even attempting to install them from the disk and use them. I went to the suggested website by other reviewers and downloaded some drivers from there and installed them that way. It also took awhile for the program to fully integrate and get working with windows 7. At first it almost didn't seem to be working. After a restart windows 7 was then legitimately taking over and telling me my network information and connection. Instead of the small program provided with the drivers.

-CONS-
-Requires drivers provided by manufacturer not the provider.
-Need hardwired connection to download said drivers
-Takes awhile to integrate into windows 7 systems.

-PROS-
-Once operational works fine. (Works like any windows 7 wireless laptop.) Meaning the controls are all basically in windows 7 once integrated properly.

-No notable issues so far.

Well, I recently built a pc and was at my budget line. So I purchased this little guy to save some bucks. At first it would not work at all! It would not even pick up a signal, then with many hours of searching for updated drivers, thinking it was the cause, it still would not connect to the internet. Well, I did some searching and dug into the motherboard manual. And it turned out there was an application called Xfast LAN on the asrock 880GM-LE FX motherboard that was causing issues with this adapter. I uninstalled that app, and this adapter connected instantly. I have been running heavy loads of multitasking on the net with it and I am very pleased. My only issue is some pages takes a little while to load or hangs. Not sure if this is the sites themselfs, an option on my computer or the adapter. But it is not enough to give a bad review for. This adapter is fast, and has great range. I am on the other side of the house, my room is actually separate from the house up a flight of stairs. And I am getting perfect signal strength right now. Very good for the price!

Mac G4 compatible 802.11g PCI card

I was replacing a very old and slow DSL 802.11b wireless system with a cable wireless 802.11g system and needed to upgrade my two oldest desktop Macs(a 867-Mhz Quicksilver and a dual 1-Ghz MDD) that had been using Apple's original 802.11b Airport cards. This Sabrent PCI-G802 card was the least expensive b & g PCI card (under $20) that had any mention of Mac compatibility, so I figured it was worth a shot. The card does ship with a mini-CD that includes Ralink drivers for Mac, Windows, and Linux. However, there were no installation instructions for the Mac, so this might be an issue for people not comfortable in setting up a wireless network. I noted that a newer version of the Ralink driver (compatible with OS 10.3, 10.4, 10.5) was available on the Ralink website ([...]), which I downloaded and installed. Prior to software installation, the Airport card was removed and the PCI card installed. The Ralink wireless utility scanned for all the local wireless networks and it took just a couple of minutes to figure out the setup for my secured network. The cards have worked flawlessly on both G4s (10.4.11) during the month they've been in use. I was concerned about how they would perform when putting the G4's to sleep or bringing them out of sleep (this was a well-known problem with many USB 2.0 PCI cards for the Mac); however, there has to date not been any sleep-related problems despite multiple sleep periods each day. If you want an 802.11b,g card that is recognized by Apple's Airport software, you'll need to look elsewhere and pay a much higher price. Otherwise, this is a steal.

Great Interim Connection for Emergency

I just rebuilt my old P4 a few weeks ago, with the intent to sell the old beast. Suddenly, while playing Oolite, my Athlon X2 system locks up, showing immediate signs of memory corruption. I had the time to deal with it right away, but clearly not the motivation, because I chose to instead use my P4 for a few days, while I let the reality of the situation sink in. I finally stopped procrastinating and fixed my Athlon yesterday, but the 4 days I spent using this wireless card, instead of my normally-wired, Gigabit connection, were great.

Granted, the router was only about 10 feet away with a wall between us, but I would like to imagine this card has great range. However, I didn't think it was fair to rate the range, at all.. because I didn't test it for range. I did test it in Ubuntu, however. An alternate or text installer didn't seem to want to pick up this card, yet if I entered LiveCD mode, it would find the connection immediately. If you experience trouble installing this card with the server or alternate installer, use the LiveCD to get it going.

One little issue with download speed

I bought this for my PC so that I wouldn't have to run any cables to my bedroom.

It works flawlessly for internet browsing. I have a small issue with download speeds, though. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and I use Firefox (in case any of you are wondering). When I download files, my speeds tend to top out at around 8 kbps to 34 kbps with 5 of 5 bars. I have a 78 kbps internet connection and my laptop with it's WiFi card can use all of it.

I googled my problem, and found that there are a few other people in my situation that are having the same problem. I read that it was a driver issue found in Windows 7 with the particular chipset in this card. I don't know if I believe this, though, because I get better speeds on my bittorrent client than I do with regular FTP downloads.

For just browing the web, this card works just fine. It's faster than dial-up, however, some web pages take a minute. When I want to watch Youtube, I have to let it load for a while (sometimes a long while). Downloading large files is also a pain. I'm hoping that a newer driver will alleviate this problem.
