If you want a pair of compact speakers for your desk that won't demand a subwoofer, do yourself a favor and buy these while you can still get them at the incredible current Amazon bargain price under $60.

Make sure you don't overdo the bass setting to the point of booming distortion. Once I set them up correctly for bass and set them on either side of my monitor, I was blown away by the clear sound. Everything from classical, to jazz, to rock sounds incredibly accurate and detailed when played at civilized office volume levels. On the weekend I can crank them up a bit higher.

I own Bose and Logitech computer speakers. They are both very good and accurate. These Klipsch units beat them hands down for music that sounds like music.

Bought because felt like going with something other than bose ( which has never failed me).. also they were smaller and $10 cheaper(2.0). Ended up making a mistake because these things suck with bass!! Some hip hop songs sound OK and clear.. but most sound super drowned out. I know they were "horn" speakers so I put on some Miles Davis, and they sound great! Too bad hip hop is pretty much all I listen too.. O and listened to some reggae and .....shit. Sound like they are blown. Maybe this would be acceptable for $30-$40 speakers.. but if you are going to listen to music with bass, don't buy these!

JUST UPDATED: THESE ARE WAY WORSE THAN I FIRST THOUGHT! HOLLLLY WOW THESE ARE TERRRRRRIBLE. DON'T BUY!!! SOUND SO DISTORTED ITS INCREDIBLE, NEVER FELT SO RIPPED OFF FROM A PAIR OF SPEAKERS!

I don't normally write reviews, but since I had been researching computer speakers for a while, I thought I should put in my two cents, here. I was debating between a number of products, and based on the reviews the Klipsch's had the best balance of value and what I thought was going to be good sound.

When I first received the speakers, they unfortunately just didn't work. That's right, I plugged them in, and they didn't turn on. Amazon was very gracious about the whole thing, shipping me a new set, and taking back the old ones without any hassle.

I just got the new ones and they definitely look great on my desk. Their sleek design and ease of use make them nice. They also have a built in base control and separate headphone jack on the back of the speaker (why you would plug into your speakers instead of just plugging directly into your music player, I haven't quite figured out). Now, the big problem I faced right away was severe distortion with minimal volume. I figure since the speakers are digitizing the sound, they can't process loud signals or high base. The distortion sounds like the music but slowed down and put through a grinder (trust me, it's a bad sound).
So, I had to turn the base and volume way down so that I could barely hear the speakers. I'm still having a little PTSD that the horrible sound I first encountered will come back, so I'm a little hesitant to turn up the volume on the speakers or the input MP3 player.
I really don't think you should have to worry about turning up the volume or cranking up the base, do you? One final annoying thing that probably won't affect most people is that since it's a digital volume nob, every time I turn off the speakers, I have to turn the volume back up to a desired level when I turn them back on. I.e. the volume resets down to the lowest level when you turn the speakers on.

My advice: avoid these Klipsch speakers and stick to simple, cheap, and effective, but maybe not so stylish JBLs which have served me well for a long time.

I ordered these after a previous pair of Klipsch computer speakers went south on me, but am returning these and going with a pair of GigaWorks T40 Premiums instead because of one word: SUBWOOFER. I would unfavorably compare these new Klispch speakers to my old JBL Duet's -- which I still have on my secondary computer and which still work perfectly -- or rather, these Klipsch things aren't any better than the JBL Duet speakers, which cost half as much. I am sure the Klipsch speakers are louder, but what I am after is quality of sound: Like many today I use my computer as my primary music machine and need that subwoofer for the extra kick that makes the difference when Mike Rutherford starts laying into the bass pedals and stuff like that.

These are nice and crisp, clear, have a decent range of dynamics but no gripping kick of the bass range. Which probably makes them great for an office type setting where you want to watch JibJabb or stream Rush Limbaugh or whatever people do with speakers in an office (when I worked at an office once it actually consisted of work, there wasn't a lot of leisure time for listening to stuff) where the idea is to hear your entertainment clearly without necessarily rocking your cubicle neighbor out of their chair. My purpose is to simulate a kickass stereo in my home environment and admit that the subwoofer in the last Klipsch pair totally spoiled me. I am not sure what they think they were doing with the hollow "bass chamber" in the back of it other than providing people with a place to stash their weed, the attribute makes no sonic difference that I could sense even when adjusting their new dual control knob to kick up the lower range. It just didn't do anything for me.

But if you're just looking for desktop speakers for work these will probably be as good as any, which is why I am not really cheezed off about the whole affair. I am intelligent enough to know that they just aren't suitable for my own needs. Which by the way is exactly why I usually buy direct from Amazon and not a 2nd/3rd party seller: EASE OF RETURN and no money lost on shipping fees. They go to the post office tomorrow, the GigaWorks T40 Premiums will be here on Monday, and my life will continue with little or no inconvenience.
