Plenty of Room but its Lint Catching Exterior is driving me mad

This was my first time buying a camera/messenger bag. My decision came down between the Timbuk2 and this bag by Tenba. I decided on the small Tenba because of the waterproof bottom and top zipper access. After a month, I'm mostly happy with the purchase but there are four pretty big design flaws in my opinion.

PROS:
- Well constructed. Feels durable and well padded.
- Top zipper access is great!
- The small is actually pretty big.
- Looks professional as a messenger for a laptop and a camera bag.
- Pockets, pockets and more pockets. So many I may forget where some stuff is tucked away.
- Thick handle and comfortable shoulder strap.
- Plenty of room for plenty of stuff. Removable camera compartment holds my DSLR w/lens, flash, 2 additional short lenses, filter case and trigger remote. I keep other cables, triggers and other peripherals in the rest of the bag. There is still room for my 13" or 17" (snug) laptop, mouse, chargers, folders, pens, gum and other carry around items.

CONS: While the Tenba has an enormous amount of room, it falls short in four very key places:
- Outside zipper pockets are not deep enough to hold a phone. Since these pockets are the most convenient to reach, I instinctively want to place my phone there as I walk around. It is wide enough to hold it, but the phone sticks out just enough that it doesn't feel secure - like someone could just pass by and snatch it quickly.
- Removing/Placing the camera compartment is not a simple task. If you fill the camera insert like I do, then good luck getting it out easily. It takes three hands, one to hold the bag and two to pull out the compartment. Stitching a couple of handles on either side would have been an easy solution and I may have to just do that myself.
- The camera compartment does not have a cover like the Timbuk2. When it is out of the main bag, your equipment sits completely exposed. I keep a cloth over mine when it is out of the bag. Didn't seem like a big deal until after I purchased it.
- BIGGEST CON: This bag attracts every piece of lint that comes into contact. The lint you see in the picture came from my hoodie. This happens every time with certain pieces of clothing. I use a piece of thick gaff tape to pull lint from it every day before going out with the bag again. Biggest pain in the butt and a deal breaker for me.

Overall, the Tenba Small Messenger/Camera bag has been a nice change from my old equipment and laptop luggage. It feels durable, well-padded and roomy enough for plenty of equipment. It is a comfy wear and looks professional, but its lint trap exterior is a frustrating nuisance that may have me replacing it sooner than expected.

This bag will hold a full frame DSLR!

I wanted a messenger bag that was large enough to carry my D700, 24-70mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8, flash and iPad. It needed to be small enough however, where it didn't feel like a huge burden to carry around and stealthy enough not to scream "camera bag" if I was out tooling about town or travelling with my gear.

Like all of us these days, I went straight to the Internet to start my search. The challenge is I didn't have a whole lot of success in finding bags or reviews that explicitly told whether or not they'd work with full frame DSLRs. Eventually, I was able to find some candidates and narrowed my choices down to the Tenba Mini Messenger and Think Tank Retrospective 7. Both bags were great in their own right, but in the end, the Tenba offered the best value.

Overall, the bag has a business-like look. Upon first glance, the average person wouldn't think it was a camera bag. But when you look at it from the side, the width of the bag tells you that this bag holds more than books and a laptop. It doesn't quite have the hipster-cool look of the Retrospective, but what the Tenba lacks in "coolness", it makes up in utility.

Reviews of this bag knock the fact that you can't silence the Velcro that holds the flap down--ideal for situations where the noise would be distracting (school play, wedding, etc.). What Tenba did instead was include a Quick Access Zipper, which allows you to get right into the bag from the top without even lifting the flap. For me this is a killer feature because it's much more efficient than lifting a flap of a traditional messenger.

Bottom line, this is a great little bag and I simply wanted to share with folks in my position that this bag will accommodate a full frame DSLR w/ 24-70mm 2.8 lens attached. A big bonus is the bag is large enough to hold a 70-200 2.8 and 13" MacBook Pro as well.

Not Likes:
Not quite as cool looking or stealthy as other messenger bags in this space (eg. Think Tank Retrospective)
Padding on strap could be thicker
No rain cover included--common with camera bags at this price point
No option to silence the Velcro fasteners that hold down bag flap
