Wow, these bulbs do look bigger in person. Only right for fixtures that are wide-open with plenty of space in all directions!

I purchased these for use with a "Photo Basics 413 4-Socket Adapter" and a photography umbrella lamp fixture, and everything is working perfect. The diameter of these is large enough that they barely fit, given angle of the four sockets; their bases are all touching each other, but this doesn't seem to cause any problems (the bases don't get really hot on the outside).

These are hands down the best CFLs I've ever owned. I am very impressed that these are 100% silent at all times. And the light output quality is very good. They do have a short warmup period, but it is barely noticeable in terms of brightness.

According to my Kill-a-Watt (which is very accurate), these actually consume in the range of 60-73 Watts. I watched the power consumption starting cold and through the entire warmup until it completely stabilized (at a room temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit). They started at about 60W (each), gradually rose to 73W, then gradually fell back down to 68W where they remained (at least for several minutes...I didn't leave them on for hours to come back and see where they were when fully hot). So I'm guessing that the 85W number is just a worst-case sandbagged figure, not the actual average power consumption that you should expect.

I'm not sure how that compares to other brands of high-output CFLs. If there is another bulb which actually consumes 85W and is equally efficient, it would probably be even brighter than these. But anyone serious about light bulbs already knows that the lumen rating is the only one you should be looking at if you care about brightness. The Wattage rating is useful only to double-check that your lamp and circuit will be able to handle this much power (which very likely they can).

I've had these on set rigged up in a giant china ball, and the results are fantastic. the soft light (broken up by the china ball) is really pretty, and the color temperature is nearly perfect for mid-day sun. For the price, these cannot be beat. (these bulbs are ENORMOUS and will NOT fit into most normal household lamps - the screw is the same size but the bulb housing and coil are absolutely HUGE, so just be prepared for that)

ALZO bulbs are awesome BUT THIS ORDER I WAS SENT KAEZI BULBS ? THIS IS NOT WHAT I PURCHASED KAEZI BULBS ARE A LOT CHEAPER THAN THE ALZO'S - I PURCHASED ALZO BULBS BUT DID NOT RECEIVE WHAT I BOUGHT SO RATING CHANGED TO 1 STAR

ORIGINAL REVIEW IS FOR ALZO BULBS not the Kaezi crap they sent

These are HUGE but worth it for the light they put out. I put ONE in my shop/garage over one of the workbenches to replace a 4" tube shop light and at first I was impressed BUT not a lot. I felt kind of let down thinking well it is bright BUT it didn't seem "brighter" and I just spent HOW MUCH on this giant bulb? I did notice the "light" was of a different color ( a whiter light ) and figured well I see if I adjust to it and after some time see if I like it better. I continued on with what I was doing and just "forgot" about the new bulb.

When I left my shop and was going to my house I saw light in the yard and thought there was a car out in my yard so I walked around the building to look BUT THERE WAS NO CAR THERE? I was a little bewildered wondering WHY THE YARD WAS LIT UP SO MUCH WHEN THERE WAS NO CAR OR LIGHT OUT THERE ? Then I realized the light was coming from the WINDOW next to where I put this bulb at, it was lighting up the bushes 40 feet away for the building and the grass like 100 feet away. I couldn't believe how much light was coming out of the window form the ONE BULB before there was just a dull glow on the bushes. This is when I decided the other three bulbs were going up in my garage.

I have to admit these bulbs make it look like I have harnessed the SUN and put it in my shop at night.

I was looking for a way to boost the light output from the soft boxes I use in my studio. Decided on picking up some bulb splitters and extra bulbs to increase the lumen output.

After searching for quite a bit, I came across the ALZO 85 Watt 5500K bulbs. They looked identical to the ones that were already in my studio setup so I decided I would go with them.

After receiving them I was not disappointed, they worked right out of the box, with little variation among the bulbs after some testing. The package they came in was great as well, really no chance of them getting damaged during transport due to the solid package.

I was able to about double my individual box output with these extra bulbs and they definitely saved me from having to purchase a brand new softbox set (which would have drastically increased my overall cost).

I bought these to replace the bulbs in a 4 by 45 watt CFL bulb softbox lighting kit. I had hoped to replace all 4 with these brighter 85 watt bulbs. Alas, these bulbs are so big around that the 4 sockets are too close together to allow 4 of these in at once. I could only put 2 in diagonal from each other and keep 2 of the 45 watt. So instead of one 340 watt softbox and one 180 watt, I got two 260 watt. Ultimately not that much gain, but it is actually quite a bit brighter.

Pro:
- Very, very bright. (however, no match for even just a single speedlight)
- Color and Light quality is very nice. My camera's auto white balance gets very close.

Con:
- Very big, almost comically big. Both in length and diameter. Diameter issues stated above. Length was fine but touches the inner baffle of the softbox slightly.
- Very HOT. The 45 watt bulbs would heat up a little, but these get very hot inside the softbox (even with just 2 of them!). So hot that when I'm done shooting I open one corner of the softbox to vent. You can feel very hot air coming out. This isn't your typical CFL bulb.
