I only got this game because I didn't think the english port would come out eventually so I decided what the heck?The controls aren't hard and are actually pretty easy to understand though the combat is...different I don't dislike that's for sure.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is a game that takes everything you know about the traditional RPG game and turns it on his head. The story revolves around a group of elite soldiers in an academy from a country called Suzaku who are collectively known as Class Zero. Together, they participate in battles and military campaigns against the countries of Byakko and Soryu. There are over a dozen characters overall, each with their own voice actor and developed personality. I'm not sure how they managed to squeeze so many audio files into so tight a space, but they did.

The game features several optional dungeons and missions, many of which are available only through a replay mode. In the replay mode, although you retain the airship you got and all the chocobos you bred, you are limited to only certain parts of the world depending on how far advanced the story is. The trade-off is that you get to do new "Code Crimson" missions that were not available the first time around.

The boss fights for this game are absolutely top-notch. There's a battle where a gigantic version of Bahamut fights against a gigantic blue dragon. You also have to fight off mechanized weapons, giant swordsmen called Outsiders, in addition to the normal Final Fantasy enemies (such as Bombs and Flan).

The difficulty of training up characters is somewhat mitigated by the ease with which enemies can be defeated. At certain times, enemies will leave themselves open to attack. During this time, you can hit them with a "Break Sight" or "Kill Sight" attack to do far more damage than normal. This makes it possible for under-leveled characters to complete missions that would normally be beyond them.

The ultimate purpose of the game is to become what's called "Agito" by obtaining supreme power. This (presumably) will end the cycle of repeating events the characters are going through. Essentially, they are experiencing Groundhog Day, over and over, without even realizing it. That's okay, because there are so many things to do, so many side quests to complete, that it's impossible to grow tired of playing this game.

Why Square Enix never produced an English-language version for the PSP or the Playstation Vita, I don't know.
